Seeing women's tennis have tournaments without the major players this late in the season is really sad to watch. Oh how I really miss the days of the Virginia Slims. Those tournaments help kept women's tennis stay afloat during the North American autumn, after the US Open. I wish there was a way to bring something similar to that because what we have right now is truly awful.

Arango d Sloane Stephens 61 62. Before this week Colombian Emiliana, had never won a match in a WTA1000. She has now beaten 2 top 50 players back to back at Guadalajara tournament.
1st WTA 1000R4
1st win over a GS champion

Massive win for Caroline Garcia given all the circumstances - form, points to defend soon, saved MPs and has a great opportunity in a weak draw. Garcia d Sasnovich 46 76(5) 64

Not something you want to watch but it happened. Heat conquered Clara Tausons body, so she had to withdraw because the heat and missing liquids. Here are couple of pictures from the match ending. A breakdown on the field with a lot of officials and a picture where she is driven away on a stretcher. There were NO heatrule after second set - one set all against Putintseva - most people could see that something was wrong after second set.

Upsets and retirement from matches is on the rise in the Fall . I think this time of the year the ladies are just worn down due to ONLY so much pounding the body can take ..,(the travel alone is just brutal on the body).

This is why I cannot consider anyone from this era to be the GOAT (Sorry Serena). This didn't happen back in the day. Players like BJK, Navratilova, and Evert would never be this worn down in the fall (or at any time in the year, for that matter).

I guess maybe they should hold the WTA Finals 2 weeks after the US Open, then call it a season. These tournaments in between the US Open and the WTA Finals are an embarrassment. They should be held in November/December to start off the following season and a ramp up to the Australian Open. At least if no one shows up to them, no one will really care.

Ons hasn't been right since that Wimby choke. I think it will take quite a while for her to absorb and swallow that loss. No good reason she shouldn't have dominated this weak field.

I agree, it was a weak draw and she should have dominated the weak field

This was a weak tournament for a WTA1000, I feel a lot has to do with it, it was too close after the USO and also the high altitude in Mexico and also they use different balls, players have to adjust their games to suit the conditions.some have adjusted some have not.

QF match between Kenin and Fernandez going 3 sets,
Leylah was serving for the 2nd set, broken missing a swing volley, though I must say her serve, most importantly her ball toss has improved, 12 aces in the match, 2nd set went to a TB Lelyah was down 1-4 and fought back to win 76(6) though both players were nervous towards the end of the TB with DFs. Kenin won the 1st set 64
Kenin d Fernandez 64 67(6) 61, first time for Sofia into a WTA1000 SF since Cinncy 2019 ( up to #31 in the WTA Live Ranking)

Caroline Garcia (3) seems to have found some form that has been missing, she defeats Azarenka in straight sets 63 64. This is Caroline's first WTA1000 SF in 2023, will be back in the Top 10 with this win.

In the last night QF match, Maria Sakkari (2) serving for the match 5-3 broken, just a small blip, defeated Arango 63 64, making the SF at Guadalajar,

Surfed by TC to catch Sakkari in Guadalajara! Who TF is this Arango girl? The baseball cap turned around backwards is quite ridiculous enough on guys! I thought it was "Justine Bieber" except for the skirt! :face-with-hand-over-mouth: :astonished-face: :face-with-tears-of-joy:
