I think the media exaggerate Emma's sponsorship deals, Emma mentioned she only spends a few days with sponsors. She is training hard in the gym & practice court. She is just having a few injuries that most young players have. What she did at the Us Open was amazing, but that also gave her a huge target on her back. I think once she gets more used to the tour she will consistently do great. I can & am kinda expecting her to win Wimbledon this year. Similar to Nyc which no one saw that coming, if she is injury free I can see something similar happening at SW19!. The crowd will be electric in her matches. We have all seen how crowds can carry players over the line. Like in football the Wimbledon crowd needs to make centre court a fortress for Emma during her career & good things will happen!!
Welcome, TheSicilian, and I agree - and hope the same. If either Emma or Iga win, I'll be happy, but more so for Emma...

Thanks Kieran! A Emma v Iga final would be perfect for you :)
It sort of would! But then I'd have the dampener of having nobody to hate, and nobody to cheer! I love the extreme tension of big matches, win-win would be sweet but not as satisfying as - say - Emma beating Naomi-Me-Me! in the final, or Iga sorting someone out in a tough brawl.

That is true. I think I would be the opposite though, if I was guaranteed Emma v Bencic in the final I would sign right now. That would be my dream Wimbledon final! Win Win for me like the USO QF.

Welcome Scilian,

Iga as a recurring shoulder problem and will not be having any pre warm up to Wimbledon
Quite frankly her grass skills to date, are not as good as her clay skills, though she indeed has the weapons to be a good grass court player.
When I look presently at the womens field for grass there is not one player who stands out on grass
I feel this will be a very interesting Wimbledon, which in many ways is up for grabs in many respects.
Of course the one player who excels on grass was Ash Barty, defending champion she has retired, sad to say.
If Serena Williams was to play, she is not, she is another player who excels on grass..

Yeah, I think I'd take it too, to be honest. For Iga because she's an honest player who's having a great season, and for Emma because she's due a good run, and for it to happen at Wimbledon would shut up the naysayers in the press...

Thanks Margaret! Iga has a 4-4 record on grass if the stats I was reading are correct. So most probably she hasn't played enough on grass to get her winning numbers up yet, she made 4th round last year, so would expect her to improve that result if injury free.

Iga certainly has the weapons to be a good grass player no doubt, though seeing she is not have a pre warm up grass tournament, is a worry for me.Coming off clay to grass is a challenge in itself.

They could both have a few tough exciting battles on the way to the final, then a nice relaxing win win situation in the final. For Emma not just the press but also some ex players, pundits etc have been quite harsh on her, so her winning to quieten them would be extra sweet.

That could be negative for her, but she is on a huge winning streak with a lot of confidence which is maybe be enough to get through the 1st few rounds?

Seeing Iga is seeded No 1 her draw should be okay probably to the q/finals, I am assuming.

Yeah she should be okay. One player who could be a threat to any top player early on is Lisicki, she has started playing again after years of injury. Not sure if she would get a wild card into Wimbledon or have to go through qualifying but if she makes the draw, I doubt any top seeds would want to see her in their section of the draw!

She can be a bit of a Head Case, another player who loves the grass though I think her best tennis sadly is behind her, Petra Kvitova

Another player that is good on the grass, she was in the finals last year against Barty is Karolina Pliskova, though she has been off the tour with injury, her ranking has slipped, she has a lot of pressure on her to defend those points, again she also can be a Head Case
Ons Jabeur can play well on grass she is going to play Berlin as her pre warm up tournament before Wimbledon
Also a dangerous player could be Coco Gauff, who is also playing Berlin as her pre warm up tournament

Yes, and Coco has something to prove no, getting to the RG finals.
