Kamu in the house watching Sloane he always keeps a 'stony face'...though he should be smiling now she has turned the match around in the 3rd set
The magic between those two Sloane and Kamau Murray is amazing. He really helps her with her problem solving.. I'm still with Keli about last night victory. Had that player's back not stiffen, Sloane would have been adios.

^^ I' m glad she came through and won. It would have really set her confidence back if she had not found a way to win this against someone who is still in the hunt for her maiden title. Now that she's married and back w/ Murray, hopefully she will relax, build some confidence and get consistent again.

After Sloane won the USO,I really thought that would be a stepping stone for her to win more GS titles, she has the talent,a good athlete, she seem to lost her way,has been in the tennis wilderness for sometime. We shall see how she fares in 2022.

Good news for Sloane she will be back in the Top 40 (not 50 like I thought) after this win in the final.

She should have won RG but her game went walkabout vs Halep.

I still believe that she will get waxed by agressors like Naomi and Ash Barty.

Just confirmation that Sloane Stephens earned 280 ranking points after her final win - she moves up 18 spots (from No 57 to No 39) the largest jump this week among the Top 100.

Top seed Ukraine's Elina Svitolina,at Monterrey this week, was scheduled to face Russia's Anastasia Potapova in the first round but has announced she will not play unless demands are met.

Dear All,
" I believe the current situation requires a clear position from our organizations ATP,WTA and ITE.As such,we-Ukrainian players-requested to ATP,WTA and ITF to follow the recommendations of the IOC to accept Russian or Belarussion nationals only as neutral athletes.without displaying any national symbols, colours, flags or anthems.
Accordingly,I want to announce that I will not play tomorrow in Monterrey, nor any other match against Russian or Belarussian tennis players until our organizations take this necessary decision.
I do not blame any of the Russian athletes. They are not responsible for the invasion of our motherland.Moveover, I wish to pay tribute to all players, especially Russians and Belarussians, who bravely stated their position against the war.Their support is essential."
Elina Svitolina.

Leylah Fernandez defending champion in Monterrey.Leylah has played very few matches this year, not since her 1st Rd loss to WC Madison Inglis at the AO which was nearly two months ago.
Fernandez defeated Schmiedlova 62 62,though hard to guage the form,as Schmiedlova didnt put up much resistance.

The Ukarnian tennis federation quotes Svitolina saying everything is arranged that Anastasia Potapova will play under a 'neutral flag' and that tonights match will go ahead.
Svitolina's match will go ahead at 6.30pm EST tonight.

The WTA/ATP boards have made the decision to suspend the combined event, scheduled this October in Moscow.
At this time, players from Russia and Belarus will continue to be allowed to compete in international tennis events on the tour and Grand Slams. However, they will not compete under the name or flag of Russia or Belarus until further notice.
