I think Serena's Matrix commercial was better than that lousy movie.. I can't believe that Keau Reeves signed up for that crap.

Just a comment - and it has nothing to do with tennis - but a comment to the situation in Ukraine - feel free to share the pic.

I’m glad that Svitolina won, but I thought she said she wasn’t going to play against any Russians?

The WTA/ATP boards have made the decision to suspend the combined event, scheduled this October in Moscow.
At this time, players from Russia and Belarus will continue to be allowed to compete in international tennis events on the tour and Grand Slams. However, they will not compete under the name or flag of Russia or Belarus until further notice.

She didn't. See Margaret's post above to what the WTA is doing.

Thanks @kskate2! And @MargaretMcAleer!

This is, I suppose, how messy it gets now. I’m not in favour of Russian players being targeted as individuals, but though they’re to play under a different flag, it’s basically irrelevant for non-team tourneys. They play for themselves there anyway, but in a sense, a fair signal has been sent. And symbols are important in times like these.

By the way, I’m not saying Svitolina shouldn't have played her. I wouldn't argue against her for that. I know now she insisted they appear under a neutral flag, and I’m glad she played and won, because I like her, and because I feel terrible for her and everyone in Ukraine.

Anyway, she’s doing the right thing regardless.

I’m also glad the WTA have taken another brave - and most likely costly - stand against the tyrants. Kudos to them again, after their stance against China. They’re doing the sport proud.

I read Peter Bodo’s article in tennis.com where he insists that Russian sports stars should condemn Putin. Bodo lives in a country where people are afraid to say publicly what the word “woman” means, and he wants Russian sports stars to put their families at risk back home in Russia by calling out Putin directly. Russian people have always lived under tyrants. This is something alien to us in the fancy free west, but Rublev scribbling “no war, please” on the camera might be as brave as a Russian can be right now.

BTW Elina has said any money she wins in the tournament she will be donating to the Ukrainian army.

That’s right, which is great, isn’t it? I’ve been very impressed by the Ukrainians. So many heroic people, including famous boxers, tennis players, footballers, signing up to fight. It’s inspiring for the folks getting hammered in apartment blocks by the Russians…

They are remarkable people who are willing to fight for their countries freedom, putting their own lives at risk in doing so.

I still don't understand why Gillette razors name her as their commercial endorsed ambassador

I just wonder how this announcement fits into professional tennis. Will she promote tennis fashion or all parts of Lacoste productions.? It seems like a great job if she does just print work for them. But is she expected to wear Lacoste clothing on court? Will she even be on court? Others have said both Williams sisters have quietly retired. So I wonder how Lacoste feels it will benefit them? Or am I missing something, and will we see Venus at the FO, Wimbledon and the US Open? Despite their rankings they remain so popular I can''t imagine either player denied a wildcard into just about any tournament they want to play in. Wimbledon without Venus will just not feel the same.
