I just wonder how this announcement fits into professional tennis. Will she promote tennis fashion or all parts of Lacoste productions.? It seems like a great job if she does just print work for them. But is she expected to wear Lacoste clothing on court? Will she even be on court? Others have said both Williams sisters have quietly retired. So I wonder how Lacoste feels it will benefit them? Or am I missing something, and will we see Venus at the FO, Wimbledon and the US Open? Despite their rankings they remain so popular I can''t imagine either player denied a wildcard into just about any tournament they want to play in. Wimbledon without Venus will just not feel the same.
At present the finer details of Venus being the new Global Ambassador for Lacoste,eg,promoting all parts of Lacoste productions is not clear.Remember Venus also has her own tennis clothing company.,so wearing Lacoste on court,I imagine would have to be worked out, that would be a 'conflict of interest' I would imagine.
In regards to the rumors of the Williams sisters being retired? there has been no official word of retirement from either Serena or Venus.

Serena will be back. Mark my words. She wants to play when she is completely healed and make a run at a slam. I do agree that when they finally do retire it will be done rather quietly so as not to make a big splash. I can see one or both of them playing their last tournament and then announcing after the fact that they are stepping away.

After more than a decade without a title sponsor, since 2010, the WTA signs on with Hologic, a US-based company focused on women's health.

Speaking of Serena,

Serena will appear for an in-depth interview on 'The Daily Show with Trevor Noah' tonight at 11pm ET/PT.
Thanks for that! And speaking of Serena, The New York Times ran a story about her new venture, a venture capital firm to invest in companies of diversity, and mistakenly used a photo of Venus, with Serena's name under it. How famous do you have to be not to be confused with another Black woman, even if it's your also-famous sister? This is from the Huffington Post, which somehow puts a completely unrelated video of Ketanji Jackson at the top. WTF?

Ash Barty has withdrawn from IW and Miami (she is the defending champion)
" My body has not recovered the way I'd hoped after the AO and I have not been able to adequately prepare for IW and Miami.I have decided to withdraw from both tournaments, sad not to be at both tournaments.Getting my body right must be my focus at this time".
Ash Barty hopes to play for Australia at the BJK in April.

Danielle Collins has also withdrawn from IW...no word as yet what the injury is.

The Times said they printed a retraction the next day, and that it only appeared in the print edition, but was corrected for the online version. However, I looked at the online version, which contains NO retraction or comment of any kind. I think the Times owes a bit more of a mea culpa and a soul-searching than that. As Serena's husband says in the article above, he's never once been mistaken for a different white guy in the press. And I wouldn't know him if I tripped over him at the USO. I understand that news outlets are increasingly short-staffed and the errata count is noticeably higher since quite a while. But some photo editor even in the Business section couldn't tell Venus from Serena? SMH.

Suffice it to say Serena will not be doing any new interviews for the NYT. And I'm pretty sure she'll ignore their questions in any pressers.:lol6:

Ash Barty will drop 1000 points in Miami but her lead is quite big, only a Sunshine double from Krejcikova,Sabalenka,Swiatek or Kontaveit would put her No 1 in danger
Sunshine double is very difficult. I don't see those players above having the necessary chops on hards to pull it off.

Agree...a bit surprised with Ash withdrawing from both, though I know she was still having upper thigh problems again with her leg.

Not terribly surprised. If she comes for the sunshine doub, she'll have to leave home in March and she's not likely to return until after Wimb or the USO. She doesn't want to be gone that long, especially after doing it last year.

Ash is so much better than the rest of the field especially mentally..she can show up a week or so before a big tournament and still be a big favorite. Why waste all her time bei abroad when it's not needed for the mental strain. This is Federer in his prime is what Ash has become.

Former Top 20 player Varrara Lepchenko was given a 4 year doping suspension on Friday by the ITF after she tested positive for a banned stimulant during a tournament last year. Her lawyer,Howards Jacobs, intends to appeal the decision to the Court of Arbitration for Sport. This is Lepchenko's second positive test for a banned substance, she was cleared on her previous case.

I cannot imagine there are 2 false positive test results. :nono:
