Finally, tennis.com has published a long article on Serena, Doping and TUEs after remaining silent during her "agent stand off saga". This guy Miller cited in that article is terrible. He gave BMS TUE for some substance and then WADA overthrew his recommendation (and if I remember right, instead of learning from it, he tried to give the same TUE to same BMS again next year). Instead of losing his job, he is still in charge of doping control at ITF. In case you have forgotten, here is the TUE saga of BMS and MIller as published in NY times couple of years ago.

I read an interesting comment by an user in an article about Serena calling out discrimination about her testing . The user was alleging that Simona underwent a PES (performance enhancing surgery). As many of you know, Simona went through a breast reduction surgery. In fact she explicitly stated that running around with large boobs makes playing good tennis difficult and that was the reason that she choose to go through surgery. So, it is a matter of fact and open admission that she went through PES.

One of the major reasons for banning PEDs is that it could be injurious to the health of the players and on an ethical ground we don't want players to be ruining their health just to win a few tennis tournaments. The user's argument is that surgery is definitely more dangerous than most drugs. So, we have a system which accepts PES and not PED. Is that a double standard? What do you folks think?

Retroactive TUEs are a disgrace to the sport.

I really don’t think Serena is doing herself any favors with her approach to this. There is still plenty of time for other players to catch up to her in number of testings. Not to mention, she comes off very petty over this. I certainly don’t think she is doping, but she needs to stop. The reason she is tested more than any of her fellow Americans is because she is a winner. They don’t test the losers. I’m starting to lose patience in this. Federer and Nadal have been tested quite a bit as well, so where is the discrimination in all of this? If you are interested in a clean sport, then put action behind your words and stop complaining.

I clicked like because I agree there is no discrimination and she should stop complaining but I also think she's far from a clean athlete. They brushed aside the missed test the month before Wimbledon, weird dizzy episode also at Wimbledon and panic room incident like they never happened except they all did. Not to mention the timing of her retroactive TUEs stinks. Before all major events, most of which she then won.

She now has all the above dodgy things AND her complaining about testing AND her contacting the WTA CEO to complain about testing which makes her look even more guilty. She's not very clever really it seems as this does not make her look good to the media, not that she has done anyway if people bother to give it any thought.

As terrible as her thought process is at times, she certainly isn’t stupid enough to draw this type of attention to herself if she wasn’t clean. That’s why I am sure she is clean. Now, I don’t like retroactive TUEs, but clearly she has adhered to their rules as convoluted as they are. Can’t cheat if the powers that be are allowing these exemptions.

Serena should just stop talking. She’ll lose fans, including me, by japping. How much money has she earned playing tennis? If she isn’t smart enough to realize she should abide by the rules, she can retire.

Incidentally, you can cheat even if powers that be allow it. Sharapova is an example of someone who cheated her entire career even though meldonium wasn’t prohibited.

Since she mostly used it when it wasn't banned, it's actually a lesser offense than the Wiliams' sisters retroactive TUEs because the TUEs are used for banned substances. TUEs are a disgrace and shouldn't be allowed at all in sport imo.

It’s not any less of an offense as the powers that be have allowed players to do this. You know and as much as I dislike them Serena isn’t the only one to have TUEs, and I am pretty sure she probably isn’t the only one with retroactive TUEs. As much as Serena frustrates the eff out of me on this subject, she shouldn’t be the only one thrown under the bus when I’m sure if we saw the files of many players we would be like wtf.

I quite agree there are tons of players abusing TUEs, this is why they need to get rid of them completely, especially retroactactive ones, which need to be stopped immediately imo.

Serena withdraws for personal reasons. I hope it’s nothing serious.
What happens to the Canada draw?
