I don't enjoy bashing players but I have to say that Sloane's display yesterday was a disgrace. It's not that she lost 6-1/6-0, or even that she lost by such a score to a Wozniacki who's nothing more than a shadow of her former self. But this total lack of any effort whatsoever is one I've rarely seen in a professional tennis match, or even a recreational one in fact. It's like at the first change of ends she had already made up her mind that this was not going to be her day. There's something to say for being loyal to the player you support, but instead of cheering her that crowd should have asked their money back after this farce.

As for Caroline, her stats were very good to my way of thinking, but it really was impossible for her to make either more winners or errors. She didn't get the chance because Sloane lamely put the ball into the bottom of the net or yards outside the lines upon the first point of contact. She wouldn't have been able (or cared enough to bother) to put the ball over the net and between the lines if they had been playing on a tennis court the size of a football pitch. She will never come close to fullfilling her potential with the attitude that she has.

It's no joke to say Stephens performance was one of the worst performances I've ever seen on a tennis court. Some days you just play bad but there was more to Stephens performance than that. She wasn't even giving herself a chance to play well because she was taking on some of the most stupid shots I've ever seen.

I wouldn't read anything into Wozniacki's stats. It's impossible to hit winners or unforced errors when your opponent is self-destructing long before you have a chance to do anything. She has a good draw here to at least the QF's, but I think she desperately needs a big win rather than weak draws. I'd rather see some long term development, signs of improvement. That's going to be very hard to judge when 2 of her matches won't have been on TV and the other was a monstrosity (though not her fault) vs Stephens. Though I guess getting back inside the top 16 is important for the clay season.

If any has wondered why Caroline isn't playing in a Stella costume - here is the reason why:

Simply a special developed tank for moist areas. If it's as good as it reads it's great for the players.:)

The lady just had a real bad day, lets leave it at that. She looked defeated from the get go.
I like Sloane and I hope she bounces back for Clay season.

Kiu,

This is more than just a bad day. If that's the case, she's having a multitude of them. Her effort has been dismal in most of her matches this year. AO R16, R1 of Doha and Dubai. She didn't show up for FedCup and then played a clunky match against Pannetta at IW.

Pova is in target practice mode against Flipkens. I am expecting a bagel before the match is over. Flip needs to improve her BF. She will not make a dent in tournaments otherwise.

Flip up a set but down a break in the 2nd. She's not doing too bad. I do agree that BH is a liability at times.

Woz is wearing the black diaper again. Adidas should be shamed of itself designing trash like that. Who will pay money for dresses so ugly? Woz should put her foot down and insist on choosing her own outfits

I think Sloane has her worst days against players like A-Rad, Woz and Penneta, she just can't hit through them on a hard court, she overplays and hits errors. I agree with what most are saying!
Lots of it was frustrated play.... but she had her first break through in French Open a couple of years ago and must have good memories....lets hope she bounces out of her slump.

Enough talk about Sloane, lets talk present.

Masha lost the first to Flipkens, this was the first time Kirsten took a set from Masha. Masha breaks early in 2nd set and is leading 4-1

Angie ran into heavy resistance from Makarova but closed the first set 6-4
Ekaterina will not just go away.

It looks like Maria has woken up in the 2nd set

She needs to do away with the DFs, already has 7 and no Ace.

It's not just DF's. Her footwork is sloppy and she has ground errors as well.

Masha got into trouble, the 8th DF cost her a game, she got broken.
Flipper to serve to even the second set.

Na she did not have a bad day, after all it was not Serena across the net from her.
