Games set and match Aga. 6-4, 3-6, 6-4

Weird match. Both players seemed in total control at different points.  I thought Aga was going to blow it at the end but Garbine played a poor service game...  Aga will meet the winner of Maria and Petra.

6-6 3-3 in set 2, Masha is hanging in there by the skin of her teeth.  Petra's seeing the ball like a watermelon and hitting huge groundies of her own.

First of all - Congratulations Petra! - Such a nice victory  - As for this match - I feared this would happen - One can never tell with Petra and when she's on she can beat anyone and today she was on - Maria Sharapova used to have at least one lousy day during a tournament and most of the time she's able to find a way to win but not today - This is such a disappointment after she had played so well - Losing 2 service games while serving for the set is just terrible - It's a little remarkable that the two players who went through RR 30 are out - At least Garbiñe went down fighting to the end while Masha looked lost most of the time and blew 2 service games serving for the match  - Anyways I'm happy to have seen Masha play 3 great matcher - Few had expected that she would play that strong in the beginning of the tournament - so I'm not to sad

Agreed, It's been a good tournament for Maria overall.  Petra is a strange kettle of fish... she can be brilliant when she's hot and in full flow.  She didn't miss a lot, got the rub of the green with about a million net cords and was hitting big.

Funny thing is, I think Aga might beat her... she'll won't let her get any rhythm and won't give her any pace. The commentators were basically saying "nobody can beat Petra in the form"... well, styles make fights... and I think the final is a 50/50 pick 'em.

It was a strange set of tennis (the 2nd one), I even woke up to watch it a little bit and was sure that it would go at least to 3 sets, but tennis is so weird sometimes.  That final game, point seem so far away.   Congratulations to Petra, she really re-grouped nicely and wouldn't give up on set #2.

So we have Aga vs Petra.  They won't play in the middle of the night for me, I hope.

Great point for Aga to break in the second.  Excellent defence and the transitioning into attack.... story of the day so far.
