Well done to Marketa winning 61 64 I knew this would be a tricky match for Osaka
Marketa deserved her win!!!
I don't mind upsets! The game needs it to keep it interesting! As much as people lauded Fedal, it was tiring seeing them play final after final like Martina and Chris for a few years until Djokovic broke up the private party! :dance2:

What I like about the WTA there is soo much depth these days, upsets are on the cards, keeps all the players on their toes.Which is a good thing.

It's been in cycles with the ladies where one or 2 women run the era, but this is unprecedented parity! No one's safe in the 1st round of events! :-)2

The Olympics are a whole different ball of wax where upsets abound! We get OG winners by the name of Monica Puig! Puig? WHO?

Of course it always happens at the Olympics....Monica decided not to defend her gold medal due to COVID which is understandable.

What I liked about Marketa's win she took Osaka off balance at the baseline and used her drop shots to perfection.,bringing Osaka forward.
Osaka needs to practice her 'transition game to the net' I wish she would play doubles.
If she wants to play better on grass she needs volley skills and a good transition game to the net.
I hope she does not end up as another Kim Cljisters who could only win on HC.

From Tumami Carayol------Journalist at the Olympics,

After the mixed zone cleared and the word was she had left (Osaka).Osaka returned to answer a couple of Qs in her own time.
She agreed that this was a heavy week that had not helped and she's glad she didn't lose in round 2.She doesn't know when she will play next.

Kiki Bertens played the final match of her career at the Olympics and she retires as this highest Dutch female player ever, peaking at No 4.Kiki won 10 singles titles and 10 doubles titles.Good luck in your retirement Kiki!
The only active WTA players to have double figures in both singles and doubles titles are Serena Williams,Venus Williams,Ash Barty.Svetlana Kuznetsova,Vera Zvonareva and Kim Clijsters.( Rafael Nadal is the only active man to have done it).
