The women's singles semi finals at the Olympics are set continuing this year of variety in women's tennis.
16 different women have made the semi finals at the most prestigious events this year.

It's hard to say if it's parity and all of women's tennis has finally become competitive or is there just a lack of a consistant and magnetic star? Osaka has the chops for it, but was run off! Leave it to the ladies to allow themselves to self-sabotage as much as they used to be the best at promoting their product! It's all about $$ & "ME" now! I used to complain how it was the "Martina & Chris Show" for years! They literally sat down together to plan out the next season's schedule to split them up and make sure at least one of them would be there! I never tired of it, but history would look at that era as something medieval where Susan Lenglen had no peer or Mo Connolly was ruling as a teenager! By the 80's it made no sense how thin the ranks were in the ladies game! I was literally embarrassed for them being so owned! It was worse than if The Big 3 were going up against NG'rs of a decade ago! It wasn't even competitive! You could count their losses on one hand outside of their rivalry when ended in Navratilova's favor 43-37! No doubt the women are in great shape with stiff competition, but I have no clue who's really leading the way on tour! I hear Barty is #1!

I think I mention the other day there is soo much depth in that WTA at present, any top player can lose to a lower ranked player on any given day,I feel those days of Martina and Chris have gone, lets face it,it was getting boring.

Elena Rybakina pumps her 12th Ace to take the 2nd set 64 and force a decider against Belinda Bencic
Bencic won the 1st set 76(2).

Should've been in straight sets! I walked away for a while when Elena was up 5-2 in the 1st! How in the world did she allow that set to be stolen?
Elena went walkabout, she also fell apart in the t/break,though found her game in the 2nd set....on serve in the final set, agree she should have won in straights.
Bencic broke and will now serve for the match 5-3....Elena you will regret this match the one that got away from you.

Bencic d Rybakina 76(2) 46 63.

I am off to work...check the other women's s/final at work
I am going for a Marketa Vondrousova win even though Elina Svitolina has a H2H 3-1 I was impressed with the form of Marketa especially in her match against Osaka.

M.Vondrousova d E.Svitolina (4) 63 61....

Vesnina is doing pretty good, reaching matches with medal implications in both doubles events.

I expect her to snatch the Bronze medal in the women's doubles event.

I project Vondru for Gold and Bencic for Silver.

Rybakina will be so mad that she missed her chances in the SF and so take Svitolina to cleaners.

I am really happy for Vesnina who has come back to the tour after 3 years,on maternity leave she is a doubles specialist, hopefully she and her partner Kudermetova can win the bronze medal for Russia.

People on news programs are the only ones bringing this up, but why in TF is Russia allowed to attend, participate, and win so many medals? Aren't they supposed to be under some kind of suspension due to doping back in Socchi? This makes no sense to me, but won't mind Karen winning GOLD! :face-with-hand-over-mouth:

Seeing I have always had a 'soft spot' for Pavs,I am thrilled she has a chance to win gold medal in the mixed doubles match with Rublev....that pairing took me by surprise....though this is the Olympics and surprises do happen.

BTW Elena Vesnina will celebrate her 35th birthday by playing in the mixed doubles final with her partner Karatsev.
