Who cares what she was like or behaved 10 years ago? We're talking about now and she's one of the most distracting players out there; playing or watching her! You can add Azarenka to the mix! Both are unwatchable, even if you want them to win! I was watching BJK playing Evert in the '73 Wimbledon final and you didn't hear a peep out of them and they weren't giving each other "death stares," stalling all the way! I don't even think they sat down on changeovers! Oh for the good ol' days!

You're of course entitled to have your personal opinion about someone even if tens of millions of other people have a completely different one but to express this personal opinion over and over again is completely unnecessary and as the Borg say - futile

Sure millions of people may like her but if you visit a lot of tennis forums I'm quite confident she's the most disliked WTA player currently on tour and by the players too. As I pointed out a few posts ago though, she was fine in 2004 and I had zero issues with her then as was the case with many people also. As she's getting older she's looking for any edge to win and they're not nice ways to go about it. You can hit balls hard and win matches without staring horribly every point at your opponent, stalling between points and screaming at the top of your lungs. She's not the only one who screams obviously.

You can absolutely belt balls and make no noise. Watch how hard Lisicki and Ivanovic both serve and hit balls and not a sound out of them.

:D tens of millions of other people do NOT like Masha (see, I used her name and changed).
Your popularity claim is funny. The dislikers just dont go out in the street and shout "I hate her".
The commentators are making their living of her, they collaborate. The media is a cynical industry.
You dream your own dream and check reality now and then :)

That was hilarious making it seem like it was just a handful of folks that didn't like her compared to 10's of millions of fans! What a pathetic joke! lol! :lolz: :snigger :laydownlaughing

If Serena isn't careful, she is going to start giving everyone hope that she is consistently beatable. Get that serve in order and that aggression back. She has to stop this need to maintain the rally and look to end points quicker than she is.

Losing before the quarters in 4 of the last 5 slams shows she already is very beatable and largely down to inexplicably poor play rather than amazing play by her opponents too which is the highly disappointing part for her and her fans.

I've been saying that for years! The more she played this way, the more I thought it would shorten her career; same with men like Nadal and Murray! It's the most ridiculous thing to see again and again from these players; hitting an offensive shot, putting opponent on their heels, then back up to continue rather than ending the point! It's just plain stupid in so many ways! :nono :puzzled :s

While it is true she has played very poor in her last two slam losses, the problem for me is her attitude about it. She didn't even seem like she was trying to regroup at any point during those losses.

I put this down to Patrick's style of play that he has imparted on Serena. He helped her gain consistency for the most part, but now he needs to impart some aggression back in her game because players are taking it to her rather than her taking it to them. When an Alize Cornet is dictating play against Serena Williams, then there are problems. Serena Williams should rarely be dictated to in play, and it is happening more and more.

Agreed. Just a look of utter hopelessness on her face at all times. The last game yesterday and the error on match point were pathetic.

Serena is a baseliner. She is not that great at net, which is why she backed up after hitting a short ball or lost points after a weak volley. This is the problem with having a one dimensional game. Sorry if this offends Serena fans. I was cheering for her also to win Wimby, but once she got tentative on her ground strokes, Cornet was able to drop shot and run her all over the court.

The GOAT talk is nauseating for that very reason! Her limitations are so obvious! Even Graf served and volley at times; esp. early on before the "forehand" became legend! :nono :puzzled

I'm so disappointed that Serena didn't go through! I really expected to see her in the final. I guess it's Maria's chance to get one more Wimbledon title. As to Simona, she's not that good at a grass court, maybe she needs more practice.

Good grief. I go away for a few days and Armageddon has started. Sorry Serena is out, but something is amiss with her emotions. This run of bad play has more to do w/ how she feels than her "one dimensional" game as some called it. She is an emotional player and when she's happy in her life, she plays well. When she's angry she usually channels that and fights and wins as well. But when she is unhappy, depressed or the like, it turns into a lack of confidence, poor decisions and tentativeness which equal poor play.

All of this is fixable, but she has to get out of that funk she's embraced.

MashaFan,
It's good to see you back, but you can't disappear for months on end and return only to sing the same tune over and over. As Britbox said, it's not up to mgmt to govern how posters and fans feel about players. No matter how many times you repeat the same theory of every player being respected, it's not going to change how this board is run. It's also not going to sway any "on the fence" fans Masha's way.

We don't need to be reminded over and over again that you don't like the way this board is managed.

Its all in the head. I said that in one of the posts after she lost. She looked strange. Hard to explain what was the problem. She was getting to the balls and it wasnt a fitness problem, but she was doing nothing with the balls, just pushing the balls back. Strange stuff.

Did Serena break up with Patrick? Romantically, not professionally. That could explain her mood and poor play.

Not sure. There were rumors there was some tension between them a couple of months ago.

I am going to assume trouble with Patrick is the root of Serena's subpar performance on court. I recall a strange tweet where she said she was all alone. That must have been the day of the breakup. Let's hope she gets her life in order so she can focus on tennis records. Time is running out.

I think Serena really needs to go back to the drawing board, and perhaps bring in a new coach that can add aggression back into her game. Like I said before, she is happy to maintain a rally rather than end it quicker. She should also mix up her serve speeds better than she has and work on just placing it well, so she doesn't make as many double faults, and she doesn't have to hit a second serve.
