Last update on Billie, and for all of Nole's fans, congratulations. My note to her after his win.

"I am only a fan. I like fed as you know, but for you Nole is the face of Serbia. Your people have fought hundreds of wars, suffered uncountable mistreatment, and have survived. No people I know of have been through so much hardship and never gave up. This, most of the world does not know. Nole is an example to those, of who you, as a people, are. A great people who deserve respect for your bravery and courage.

Congratulations Biljana."

Billie's reply

"OMG, now you are making me even more emotional.
I didn't check any messages or anything, just watched the match with my Nole friends.

Thank you XXXX. You are sooo sweet!!!

^ This is when stats go in the bin for me mate. Give me a choice between Federer in a final or getting knocked in a semi to protect a stat... well, put it this way, the stat becomes meaningless.

As does, folding up your tent in the fourth set to make your fifth set average better. Personally, I couldn't give a ****. Show me the trophies... that's what matters.

Roger's winning % in finals is still solid. It is all about the wins, the other stuff becomes subjective tiebreakers. With Roger he should have done better (fact is he loses almost all the razor tight tussles on the big stage) and that's the scary thing. He has the most successful career but we are talking a ridiculous standard if he acquitted himself well in the do or die moments.

Amazing match today. It actually reminded me of the 08 epic in some ways. In both matches Fed was outplayed from the baseline, but his serve kept him in the match. In both matches Fed made an unbelievable comeback from match point down in the fourth set, and had break point in the fifth, before ultimately losing. Even though I wanted Fed to take this one today, I'm not upset about the result, cause I know losing this could have been devastating for Novak after having that match point. Anyways good on him, hopefully it erases the taste of the recent French Open final, and last year's Wimbledon final as well. I thought this was his best played slam final in a long time actually, maybe even since AO 2012.

Fed is pooping all over the young guns in his presser, haha. Saying long live the big 4 he is not afraid of the young guys.

after playing like he did, the young guns do have a long way to go if they want to win a slam

He said rankings 5 to 40 were pretty interchangeable and felt confident he could control the field (imply that only the top four or so guys were threats). Also said they were not young guns but had tour for five years and their breakthroughs were not comparable to what he, Andy, and Novak had done at 21 and rafa in his teens.

Really interesting presser. Worth watching. I will say it again, I like Fed a lot more as he gets older.

It was hard to watch. Fed was in the match because of serve, Djoker made it through because of amazing return. Despite bad serve.

I don't know how after that match someone can call Djokovic's serve bad. Apart from the fourth set where Novak got nervous and Federer returned very solidly, he was never broken and granted a total of two break points I think. And probably the number of unreturned serves was similar for both. Actually without Djokovic serving very well himself Federer might have won the match rather comfortably.

We're pretty spoilt for tennis this time of year. Not too long again before it all kicks off again with some great hard court masters and the US Open. My wife, however, is disgusted that I'm watching tennis every month lol.

I'm particularly glad for Novak that he gets equal pay for this one with Kvitova. For about four brutally tough sets there today, he hardly earned it... :nono

Turned over to the replay on ABC and the 1st game just finished! What in the world were they doing for almost 20 min.? I hope TCC cuts a lot of that crap out; losing points and games with ABC's telecast trying to fit 4 hours into 3! - They're still referencing "The Big 4;" Why? I think I read that Murray will drop to #10 as of tomorrow's new rankings!
