I've no doubt that there are some morons on Twitter that fit that description, although I don't imagine that the majority of Democrats would be hoping for a global Pandemic and a complete crash of the economy just to get rid of Trump.

Using Twitter as the measure of opinion of any topic is unjustified. In the US, at least, only 20% of Americans even have an account, and the majority of them use it infrequently. From that same study:

”Most U.S adult Twitter users don’t tweet very often. A large majority of tweets come from a small minority of users. The median Twitter user produces two tweets per month, according to a 2019 study. However, among the most prolific tweeters – defined as those in the top 10% in the number of tweets they send – the median user produces 138 tweets each month. And that group of highly prolific tweeters dominates discourse on the platform more broadly: 80% of all tweets from American adults come from the top 10% of tweeters.”

In short, when news platforms quote from Twitter (“according to Twitter, this is an unpopular opinion”), they’re really presenting a minority, while trying to make it seem like a majority. Personally, I ignore the Twitterari. They’re the views of a small percentage of the extreme left and extreme right.

The number of arguments I have with one of my closest friends because of twitter is just crazy. He monitors twitter obsessively and buys into the views he sees there. Somehow believing it's mainstream thought. It never ceases to amaze me!

It’s the heroin of social media. If only we had a way to break the addiction ...

Murat, that’s like saying you love Italian food minus the pasta. :lol3:
Nah, replace the evil herb with parsley , then tacos, nachos, burritos, everything tastes better :-D
I do struggle a bit whenever I go to Mexico though. So my wife tastes everything before I eat and we are good to go

I know people that have what you have...that cilantro tastes like soap to you, right? Or is it an allergy? Anyway, I do feel sorry for people that have that. To me, cilantro tastes like there is a margarita in my near future. I worked with a Mexican creative director who didn't like spicy food. She said that was a challenge in Mexico, too! Good thing you travel with a food taster. :face-with-tears-of-joy:

It is a genetic thing apparently. To me , it is beyond soapy, just an unacceptable taste. And I eat everything, I mean everything.

"Of course some of this dislike may come down to simple preference, but for those cilantro-haters for whom the plant tastes like soap, the issue is genetic. These people have a variation in a group of olfactory-receptor genes that allows them to strongly perceive the soapy-flavored aldehydes in cilantro leaves. "

I do get that it's genetic. Not judging you. I have other friends with it. And like you, people that eat and try everything. But I feel the same sympathy for people with seafood allergies. You can live with it, but I'm glad I don't have to.

My nephew's university, (Tufts in Boston,) has closed for the semester and is sending him home. The rest of the semester and summer session will be conducted virtually.

The more this unfolds, I'm beginning to think it could be the trigger that brings down the world economy.
It's getting hard to imagine how there won't be a recession. The only question is whether it's a short V or a longer U. Italy and China are definitely going to see a period of negative growth, which pretty much means that Germany is fkd, and the rest of Europe as well. And the scary thing is that the US administration has totally ballsed up its response. We could see some truly horrific restrictions there too. Maybe not Italy style, but near enough to do the damage. My trader friends and I are constantly monitoring financial markets and I can tell you for free that the collapse in oil prices, record outflows from junk bond etfs and treasury yields at record lows have freaked us out in a way that the stock market corrections haven't. And the Fed's panic cut didn't make sense to us either. We're seeing market moves that normally presage something nasty coming soon. So yes, there's a huge risk to the global economy right now. I wouldn't be "buying on the dip" right now as Kudlow suggested!

The only way to stop Trump IMO. I'm inclined to blame the failing NY Times, Washington Post, and the Fake News media.
