Let's hope you are right & they still do not pass this nonsense in Turkey. Enough damage has been done to the world ethics by buffoon Republicans who stamp on their coins "In God We Trust" and deny earthly reality.

Right, but the ex-Christians who insist that homosexuality is genetically based, that gender is a fluid illusion, that Michael Avenatti is an upstanding man, that Jussie Smollett was beaten up in Chicago by Trump supporters, and that Donald Trump is an agent of the Russian government have an excellent grasp on "earthly reality."

I became atheist for good reasons. The instances of absurd violations of common ethical sense are just pathetic confirmations of my believe system (or lack of it because I only believe in facts & in science).

Or at least you think you do.

Well it looks like he put it back in the bottle quite easily. There was no inevitably war with Iran. You and many others were not right about that one.
He did de-escalate quickly. So I was wrong on the gravity of the immediate situation... but none of this stuff is beneficial to the United States.

I can speak only for myself, it got my attention when 50 MILLION people were quarantined. I don't think anything like that scope has ever been attempted in human history for the sheer numbers. It got my attention when said quarantine also impacts world travel and the world economy, when the Chinese economy grinded to halt , impacting the Chinese people and others abroad. Some of my good friends in China are very worried, but what the hey, it's only a "handful of deaths", right?

Considering the immense population size of China and also the concentration of that population in numerous urban areas, the death toll is remarkably low in China for a virus that is supposedly so potent. I spoke last week to someone I know from Kazakhstan and he said that no one he knows back home has been affected. He also pointed out that none of the people in the countries bordering China have been affected, including in densely populated urban areas such as Almaty. This is remarkable considering how much commerce and travel there is between the former Soviet republics and China.

The swine flu outbreak in 2009-2010 was far worse than the coronavirus but it wasn't hyped by the rotten and demented American media like this one is because Obama was president at the time.

Guys in all seriousness, please take care right now. This virus is some serious shit. In particular please advise elderly relatives to take the necessary precautions. We might fight and have opposing views, but I don't want anything terrible to happen to anyone. We should all act with extreme care at the moment. All the best!

Thanks Federberg (I knew all along you loved me like family), but you don't have to worry too much. This virus is nowhere near as bad as the American media is making out to be.

Consider these facts:

- Swine flu outbreak started in April 2019
- Between April 2019 and October 2019 there were 20,000 American hospitalizations and 1,000 American deaths from swine flu
- During this time period the stock market went up

In other words, the coronavirus has a long way to go in the next few months to catch up with the swine flu. But the major difference between now and then is who the president is. The media did not want the economy to tank under Obama but they absolutely want that under Trump because the economy is Trump's strongest argument for re-election.

This negative hype is all politically motivated. Trump is right about that.

I am not arguing that it isn't real. I am arguing that it is exaggerated and that major economic activities do not need to be shut down just because the New York Times is uncontrollably giddy over the possibility of a recession taking out Trump.

Cancelling business conferences and tennis tournaments is not a sensible response to a virus that does not even have a very high fatality rate. Swine flu ended up killing almost 12,500 Americans and over 575,000 people globally. Coronavirus has a long way to go to catch up.

But even if coronavirus ends up only killing a small fraction of what the swine flu did, its economic impact will be far worse simply because the international media - spearheaded by the NYT, WaPo scum - want to use this to destroy Trump.

It's not about Trump Cali. There are far bigger restrictions happening throughout the world that are seriously self-damaging to individual nations' economies. Take Italy for instance. They are locking down. Do you think they give two fucks about Trump?

as usual you're incorrect. I don't know whether it's because you're just stupid or brainwashed. The pace of the corona virus is faster than anything else we've seen. This isn't about your orange skinned god you silly prick. Look below...

I don't know quite what to make of this right now. I was initially a heavy skeptic, but governmental actions across the globe have been pretty severe. Watching with interest.

The World Health Organization is reporting today that the number of cases is 110,029, with 3,817 deaths — a death ratio of nearly 3.5%.

I usually mock conspiracy theories but I can’t help but think the Chinese issued an internal nonpublic memo/warning to other countries governments with hard numbers.

They're corrupt and those figures are well off. China has an enormous population and the CCP are releasing fake data. Also, given how people can be asymptomatic and still therefore have the virus, there are tons who have it that don't count as confirmed cases and thousands more dead. 49 crematories working 24 hours per day burning 1200 bodies per day for 17 days according to Miles Guo and the link I posted previously. That was from Feb 7th and he claimed the confirmed cases in China were at 1.5 million.

No, but I also know that Democrats in the United States are openly celebrating on Twitter and can't contain their glee at the prospect of the economy tanking to make Trump look bad. When a NYT editorialist calls this the "Trumpvirus" and another celebrates the decline in the stock market, that tells you where their heads are at.

I also think you are understating the influence of the American media in generating fear internationally. Whatever you think of the USA, it is the world's leading superpower, especially when it comes to media and communications. So if the major media in the U.S. are hyping something up their message is going to shape international opinion. I assure you that if the New York Times and Washington Post were downplaying this threat you would not see the same level of international panic.

Thank you very much. I agree. I've got my work cut out for me trying to tell Dad which is extra-important with a couple of his conditions. You take care too.

I've no doubt that there are some morons on Twitter that fit that description, although I don't imagine that the majority of Democrats would be hoping for a global Pandemic and a complete crash of the economy just to get rid of Trump.

I also think you are understating the influence of the American media in generating fear internationally. I think you're probably overestimating the influence of the American media in this case. Italy is in lockdown. That's 60 million people in a country where English isn't even the first language. What influence do you think the Washington Post had in that decision? I'd imagine close to nil.

Likewise, on what scale would you imagine their influence is in China? (Given how the media is tightly controlled by the government).

This was unfolding before the Post and NYT really got their teeth into it.

Serie A has been suspended. La Liga to be played behind closed doors. Champions League and Europa League might be suspended. A Nottingham Forest executive has been diagnosed with the virus and he attended a match last weekend. This sh1t is getting real!

As the Coronavirus is spreading exponentially across the world (and will continue to do so), I'm curious to see what our resident catholic doctor will have in store for his typical tap-dancing routine.

Probably a really dumb question, but who's the catholic doctor?
