The government resigned yesterday in what is a minor victory for the revolution, but ultimately it doesn't mean much and I believe it was done to quiet them down a bit (which is working). I unfortunately don't have much hope in things changing much due to reasons I'll explain in a post later today when I have more time.

Things escalated into full blown clashes between protesters and the police this past week. It's understandable from the protestors' perspective, but I'm afraid this country is too fragile for this to happen without escalating into a disaster soon.

I left Turkey just when Erdogan won the mayoral race in Istanbul, twenty something years ago. I go back every year since my family is there. The guy is a super egomaniac but just like in the US, or many other places for that matter, 50% of the population love him, the other half just hates him. But in a democracy where more than two parties exist , he remains in power with the support of 40 to 50%. The guy is a conservative and he has tried for years to nibble at the edges of the secular ways of Turkey but the Ataturk tradition is just too deep so he never quite succeeds. Turkey is a weird country man. You have the wildest night life where anything goes, and you have the most conservative people in the next town...and somehow it keeps working. When Erdogan came to power, everyone thought that was it...end of the pretty much only secular country in the Muslim world but like I said, it is still Ataturk's country.
This law was proposed before and did not pass. I highly doubt it will pass now. Of course they are trying to present it in a more "acceptable" way, like, an older guy has consensual sex with a minor (statutory rape) and they want to get married, what is wrong with that, but no one is buying it.

Let's hope you are right & they still do not pass this nonsense in Turkey. Enough damage has been done to the world ethics by buffoon Republicans who stamp on their coins "In God We Trust" and deny earthly reality. I became atheist for good reasons. The instances of absurd violations of common ethical sense are just pathetic confirmations of my believe system (or lack of it because I only believe in facts & in science).

I can speak only for myself, it got my attention when 50 MILLION people were quarantined. I don't think anything like that scope has ever been attempted in human history for the sheer numbers. It got my attention when said quarantine also impacts world travel and the world economy, when the Chinese economy grinded to halt , impacting the Chinese people and others abroad. Some of my good friends in China are very worried, but what the hey, it's only a "handful of deaths", right?

Not in the slightest. It's a massive cover up, especially by the CCP (Communist Party Of China). I urge everyone to watch this. There are subtitles 'cos it's hard to follow Miles Guo at times but he's a very reputable source. The video was uploaded on Feb 7th and he says people don't go to quarantines to get better, they go there to die. They have no food, no water and can't use the bathroom. 49 crematories were working 24 hours a day for 17 days at the time of this video with 1200 bodies burnt every day. That should give people a proper idea of the real amount of deaths. 250 million were quarantined and not the numbers reported.

He points out the obviously fake data that the deaths reported were always 2.1% not one more and not one less. So the publicly released figures are blatant cover up lies. At the time of this video he mentions the confirmed cases were around 1.5 million and that was 1 month ago and yet the world would have you believe it's 107,732 cases as of when I'm typing this. Clearly bs. Likewise, 3661 deaths is clearly bs. According to Miles Guo's figures of 1200 bodies burnt for 17 days I think people get the idea. That was at the start of last month. Imagine the real total now....
