I just love Shep. Great reporting here....
Never knew this was Roseanne's politics. I used to like her show back in the day...

I didn't know she was racist either. I used to like her show too.

This is a pretty bizarre story... the journalist announced dead in the Ukraine shows up at the news conference.

https://www.smh.com.au/world/europe...-up-at-a-news-conference-20180531-p4ziix.html
yes I saw. Pretty extreme. I find it a bit funny that some of these global press associations are criticising the Ukrainian authorities. They should make up their minds, if indeed they did this sting to apprehend his putative assassins, then what on earth do journalists have to complain about?

Doesn't Trump have more to do than focus on ABC news owing him an apology? He really is breathtakingly thin-skinned, while at the same time unable to focus on what his actual job is.

He's definitely got more to do than that. I think that he knows that a lot of people disagree with a lot of what he planned to do & is doing & he's asking for apology to take people's minds off what he's doing like the fact he's raised the tariffs for trade between the U.S.A. & 2 of their nearest neighbours Canada & Mexico. In short, it's my opinion that he's doing all this with the agenda of distracting the public from what's going on or even shorter he's using it as a distraction technique.

I was going to abandon this thread which I started but I've been feeling a little down the last couple of weeks & really needed to vent.

Why are there so many armed robberies today?

It's especially bad now as so many businesses have been going down but it's always bad because to me people are more important than money.

There are many criminological theories which are a lot more advanced than they used to be. I mean 1 of the 1st theories was phrenology which stated that it was something to do with lumps on the head & another was eugenics which seems laughable today. The most feasible ones today are rational choice theory which states that most people are rational & we all have ends & means & gang culture. If crime is the least risky means to your ends you'll commit it. Gang culture is about getting in with the wrong crowd & doing something because others are doing it & you think it's cool. I'm more likely to believe rational choice theory to be honest.

Not only has greed for money & land as well as beliefs caused more wars than anything in history, they have also caused more crimes too.

Money to me is a means of exchange at the end of the day. We haven't always had it. If we could all work together & share everything equally we wouldn't need it but I can't see it ever happening. We used to barter goods & services. I got taught that the Romans introduced money but this year I learnt that the Celts had money. We all need money to live on though. I can't really afford to think like this because I want to go back to work in a shop & have been asked to consider learning manual book-keeping & computerised accounts due to the fact in a few places I worked in I cashed up tills, did daily & weekly sales records & weekly figures sheets & sales, bought, sold & purchase ledgers as well as petty cash & invoices which I loved doing but I haven't decided yet & we live in a capitalist society as I had experience of when I was working in the hospital library & had to attend a meeting. In the meeting although dignity & respect was discussed a lot was said about what we could & couldn't offer patients because of money.

I'm sick of all the wars & threats of war. I would love an end to war but can't see it ever happening. Greed for money & land & people who aren't able to accept other people's beliefs cause them mainly. Historical examples are Edward I hammering the Scots because he wasn't happy with just being King of England & the white men going to war with the Native Americans for land that Native Americans believed no one had the right to own & wanted to share then examples of wars based on beliefs are the Crusades.

I could go into more detail but don't want to bore people by droning on & on but I've got it off my chest now & feel better.

I normally vent poetically before saying what I really think & leaving things as they are but didn't earlier so although I wrote this in my poetry section decided to post it here too.

The news today always seems so bad.
The news today always seems so sad.
The news today is so depressing.
The news today is so distressing.
Is it any wonder that so many people are depressed?
Is it any wonder that so many people are distressed?
Is it any wonder that some people to be happier no longer watch the news?
Is it any wonder that a lot of people drown their sorrows with booze?

@britbox & @kskate2 I think it's a good idea for you to merge these 2 threads & like the fact you've kept my title for it but I've got a question. I wanted to air my views on the news poetically sometimes as it helps me to vent poetically & the other thread was more serious. Am I still allowed to express myself poetically here? I mean Tsar Matt started the thread. If he came back, I wouldn't like him to come back & think "what on earth is going on? I started a serious news thread & it's now got poetic expressions of what's going on in the world.".

There is something wrong in the world when a company resorts to burning millions of dollars of clothes.

Burberry... Guilty as charged.

At one time, did not some country throw bushels of wheat in sea to ensure that wheat prices do not come down due to excess supply? I think this is the same philosophy here.

p.s. I don't advocate either one of them.

That's dreadful, disgusting & a waste of money & goods. Couldn't they have sold the goods cheaper than the new season goods in their factory shops like some companies do with slight factory seconds?

Ballsy move by Nike. 3% down today, but somehow I reckon they'll come out winners over this. Rednecks aren't the consumers that Coastal folks are. They'll be fine...

What's Kaepernick believing in exactly?

He was brought up by white adoptive parents in a middle-class suburb and had a multi-million dollar NFL contract.

He got released because he didn't cut the mustard on the pitch.

There is simply no way that Kaepernick doesn't make a team but for this controversy, so your cutting the mustard comment makes no sense

Doesn't matter who brought him up. Doesn't make him any less African American. Simply not relevant. In any case he was protesting police killing African Americans with no accountability. We can debate his method of protest, but let's not pretend we don't know what the protest is about. We're not retarded...
