What on Earth is going on in the world today? It's gone mad

I only told him the truth. It's not my fault that sometimes the truth hurts. He was nice to me & helpful at 1st but then I saw him back-stabbing others & pulling down my country. Maybe I have had a raw ordeal at times but not all my country is bad. He was tarring us all with the same brush when everyone is different. Everyone has a right to have & air an opinion as long as they respect each others rights to do the same. He disrespected my right to do that so didn't like it when I did the same. He keeps going on about our country as if he knew it personally which he doesn't as I proved to him so he shouldn't say anything. I was appalled by all the racist, anti-British & anti-American stuff he came up with some was very disturbing. He got personal 1st. I know retaliating by doing the same wasn't the nicest & wisest thing to do but I got angry so that's what I did.

I will behave civilly to him if he will do the same & apologise if he will. Xmas would be a good time to do this as we could be like Scrooge & turn over a new leaf. In our case we wouldn't need 3 spirits (4 if you include Marley's ghost). A different 3/4 spirits might help though. In my case they're Brandy, Rum, Vodka & Gin though.

I won't keep quiet about the back-stabbing & racist, Anti-American & Anti-British posts though but will speak out as soon as they're posted so I can discuss them in a civilised manner instead of allow myself to get angrier & angrier & react in a way that isn't my usual way & he knows exactly what comments I'm talking about though I actually thought anyone with any sense, a good memory & a conscience would know.

Thank you very much.
bunch of idiotic lies...... won't even address them one by one, there are enough smart and fair people both on and off-board to see it.....

lol Teddy's posts would have messed you up totally.....

About civilized convos with you, BB was trying to do that about the UK but you were posting things like this when talking about feeding Britain:

O.K. I didn't consider population because geography wasn't a strong point of mine as I had to draw a lot in geography which put me off. I know we learnt about populations of different countries in geography & map-reading but didn't pay much attention. I was that bad at geography that I had to stay in middle set for French although I never got more than 5 questions wrong in exams

so that kinda actually killed the convo, i guess apart from saving you and himself from further embarrassment he wasn't having too much fun either :p

About "Anti-American & Anti-British stuff, Britain and America have been the biggest warmongers in the past few years.... So people can't talk about it because it upsets EquineAnn????

Hey EquineAnn, go scold these trolling, bullying basement hounds too, they're my ilk and they don't like the USA and Britain for some reason :p :

...and sadly sometimes it seems that a lot of them prefer creeps.

(just a joke out of unfortunate situations I have seen, won't base any serious discussions on such general statements, at least not without much more care and research)
It's your choice. I think it would be nice to see more people write from what they know & remember rather than just googling things, sharing links & cutting & pasting from web pages & saying what they really think & being original & creative without being O.T.T. Everyone has a right to have & air an opinion whether it differs from other people's or not as long as they respect other people's rights to do the same.

I hope that the fires in California are soon put out & that not many people or animals were killed or homes damaged & that everything goes back to normal A.S.A.P. I was going to say something a few days ago but everyone's been talking about the sexual harassment allegations which have been rife recently so though I thought this was more important left it not to mention other circumstances.

This is the film that we made in Puerto Rico. I'm sorry that it took so long to get it out there.

I hope they're back to normal now. It must be very hard for people used to all the mod cons having to live like people lived before electricity for so long when we're so used to these now. It must have been like living in the 19th century before they got their power back. It's o.k. I understand you've been busy & it's been Xmas so you've been busy doing Xmas things like most people. I hope you've had a nice Xmas & got all you wanted. I also wish you a Happy New Year.

Funnily, (or not, really,) they did say it was like living in the 19th C. And it's far from over. Much of the island still has no power, and won't for a really long time.

Instead of Fedal debate, we should debate on who is more lunatic, Kim Jong who claims to have a nuclear button or DJT who claims to have bigger nuclear button that actually works.

And sadly, it seems to be a tough question.

That's so sad. I'll be thinking about them. I can only imagine how they must be feeling. Candles instead of electric lights, no fridge-freezer or separate fridge & freezer to keep their food fresher for longer, no T.V., P.C. or music centre (Well that's easier to imagine as I don't watch much T.V, still write manually, possess a type-writer & own both a walk-man & a gramophone + cassettes & pot records to play on them but no radio & I can sing. I've also got a tambourine & harmonica with books which I'm learning. (I never got a chance to learn an instrument at school because the system was everyone had voice tests & if they passed they had to sing in music class & join choir & I always passed except once when I failed on purpose but the head-teacher knew & asked me why I failed. I explained I wanted to learn an instrument. He said take a nice, deep diaphragmatic breath. I did & passed. Later on he put me in recorder class but I only got round to learning how to read music & 3 notes before he broke up recorder class as he said choir was struggling & I couldn't sing & play recorder at the same time. I wish I'd stayed in recorder class. I had to sing the songs for Sweeney Todd & don't like Sweeney Todd. Later on I learnt how to write songs which I was good at. (By the way I have an interest in some antiques & collect some antiques especially Wedgwood which has gone down in price ridiculously as I've got quite a collection which I paid 50p-£5 for & when it's the price it's really worth is much more). I look things up on the internet but for me most of the time my google is a bookshelf full of books or a library. Lol. Oops! Sorry for starting off relevant & diversifying again.

Neither are like Hitler other than they are both despots to different degrees. Neither of them are facists.

The Hitler tag gets bandied around with such regularity to all manner of people that it loses any meaning...

I didn't mean in the fascist sense but in their dictatorial & trouble-causing way of doing things trying to start wars with other countries.

They haven't as yet but Kim Jong Un is threatening other countries & is testing lots of missiles & Putin is threatening other countries & sent military planes over Britain. Why would he do that if he wasn't trying to start anything? I have to give credit where it's due though. They're both powerful leaders & Putin did help Russia's economy a lot with his policies.

If I was Kim Jong Un, I'd be testing missiles too. Remember the last dictator who was persuaded to give up his weapons of mass destruction on the premise that they'd be invited back in to the International community? Yep, his name was Colonel Gadaffi of Libya... he gave up his weapons and was overthrown a few years later by western forces because he had the cheek to consider promoting a pan-African currency that would bypass the US Dollar... not to mention oil.

Kim Jong Un attacking any country would be suicidal... he's just grandstanding for self-preservation.

As for Putin flying planes around British airspace... have you seen the western military bases and missile silos surrounding Russia? It's basically encircled...

Hmm! I remember. No I hadn't. I was just seeing things the way I heard them from the information I had available to me with me not believing everything I read on the internet or in newspapers & my main research tools being books & newspapers . It seems my information was biased & I was looking at it from our side which makes it look very scary especially as we live on a little island but now you've shown me, yes I can see where they're coming from, their side of the story & why they're acting the way they are & realise maybe we are being a bit too judgemental & unfair on them. Sorry. Thank you very much for the extra information. It's nice to see you around. Did you have a good Xmas & New Year period?

I totally agree. This narrative that the West is benign flies in the face of the facts. That's not to say either Russia or North Korea are saints at all. They are clearly not. But they tend to act from a very realistic threat that they see, as you illustrate. Interestingly one thing Saddam Hussein and Gaddafi had in common was they both attempting to re-denominate their oil sales away from the US dollar. Libya wasn't really attacked in a sustained manner after Lockerbie, and that would have been totally justified at the time, it was only when he sought to move away from dollar dependence that his goose was cooked. The world has a very real fear of the consequences of continued dollar hegemony and the likes of Russia and China are now moving in a determined fashion to try to minimise their dependence on transacting internationally through the dollar. As a Chinese general said a few years ago, the only countries able to get away with doing this have nuclear weapons. I suspect August 2008 was the precise time when the world started to move away from the US dollar as the worlds reserve currency. But this type of thing doesn't happen overnight. You only have to look at history and the pound sterling, it took fully two decades for the world to transition away from the pound as the global reserve currency..

Yep, the US needs the petro-dollar - anyone who threatens it comes under attack. It's a common pattern. I think a lot of the Russia fallout is steeped in them moving away from the dollar where possible also.

Libya was really a sub-partner in Lockerbie. It was the Iranians who were the main instigators... a revenge attack from when the Americans shot down the Iranian passenger plane in the Persian Gulf with a similar number of casualties. It barely made the western news at the time.

Back on the dollar... nothing lasts for ever... I think we're in for a tumultous couple of decades or so... will be interesting to see how the Americans manage their own decline.

It was a great speech, and the speculation here is high. Though believe me, she's been in the conversation longer than Trump ever was. I'm not sure I want TV to be the pool that we pick our leaders from, but I'd have Oprah over Trump any day.
