Hey brother, you're a bit dramatic in describing virtually every tennis fan on the planet as "obnoxious" :laydownlaughing

Rafa's fan base isn't obnoxious, and neither is anyone else's. We're just fans having a go at each other. But would I wish Federer fell off the face of the earth? No. Ten years from now we'll miss these chaps.

Rafa does create more traffic than any other player, that much is true. He even has ex-fans wishing he was gone, which is telling. I put this down to envy and fear. It's irrelevant in the long term. And actually, it's a compliment to his greatness...

Both could happen, then again, I really don't think any real conclusions can be made about RG at this point in time.

You just said you were sure Djokovic was not going to win RG next year.... :s

I meant it as, we can't possibly know what their levels will be at that time, but ND won't win it regardless.

Ah right, that makes a lot of sense then. And this is based on what exactly?

Or it could be that some people just can't stand his game, antics, uncle, they don't trust him, etc.

I think we will have to see how he starts next year. If he can't take another French next year, then I think his slam collecting is behind him.

He will have fierce competition from Djokovic there who will want that elusive slam.

I'd agree with BS that all fans are obnoxious by the very nature of fandom, but also with Kieran that because all fans are obnoxious, in a way none are. But there are a few rabid "fanboys" and "fangirls" that are more obnoxious than others...but I won't name any names! By the fanboyism/fangirlism is particularly annoying, when someone is so extreme in their worship of their favorite player that they lose all objectivity.

Kieran, what do you mean by "Rafa detractors?" Someone who activity dislikes him or is it all people who aren't fans and/or wish that he doesn't win?

I don't consider myself a "Rafa detractor" or "hater", but on the other hand I'm not a fan and I'd prefer if he didn't win anymore Slams - except perhaps that one (but only one!) final Roland Garros for the sake of drama, and also to put him ahead of Pete. I was a fan of Pete's but I also like the idea of Rafa surpassing him.

I also don't really enjoy his style of play, as I tend to prefer Federer-esque finesse over Rafa-esque tenacity, but I respect it. There is no doubting its efficiency. But does this make me a detractor? I'm just wanting to clarify what you mean, because I think we need to be careful in drawing the lines between black and white, fans and haters, or what have you.

"Fanboy and fangirl", just a dumbass label that one poster puts on some posters so you can bite and label otherwise. Cowboys, Raiders or even Cubs are fans but only in tennis world they be referred to as the dumbass labels.

Well they're just slang terms that I wouldn't take too seriously. But you seem to be denying the notion that some fans are more, well, rabid than others. What I was referring to are those fans whose love of their favorite player (in this context) overrides any objectivity, that they see what they want to see. And yes, I can think of a couple on this forum! But if that term offends you, what do you suggest to denote the same meaning? How about zealot?

And I disagree, this isn't only in tennis. Actually, it isn't only in sports and I believe the term originated in "geek" and/or tech culture.

I am not sure whether you really don't know.

SABR: Sneak Attack By Roger - Refers to his running up to service line and doing a half-volley retun strategy.

No, some fans are over the top and that not what offends me. But when a gutless poster wants to single me out because I know Rafael has no business loosing to Dustin Brown even if it's on a badly paved surface in Jamaica , Sw19
Or any place on Earth. That's weak if you want to pay homage to that cheap shot poster than its on you. I have stated numerous times since he lost to DB that he wasn't winning anything this year, especially the *US Open * but that spineless poster keep tryin to make me look less than stellar ,that's what I have an issue with. Eg. If Darth says Fed has no business losing to Nadal , does he makes the same statements of fanboy ..I am not a fan of anyone who posts like that. I am honest , I don't run or hide .

I was thinking he should pack it in, but I guess if he wants to get back into the "Big 4," it should work out for him since he has no points to defend according to someone here! The only question is, who will upset him again that's been so unsuccessful to this point? OBTW, London is being presumptuous! :p :puzzled :nono  :dodgy:

Just give me a reasoned, unbiased reply: why should he "pack it in?"

I cringe when Nadal is made to speak for himself in press conferences! Any one catch that? "It's all on me; not my coaches, not my physical training, blah, blah, blah! Looking to get back to where I'm supposed to be!" Dream on Majorca boy! You're about done!

I believe Fiero thinks Nadals situation is hopeless and beyond repair. See quote above :)

Rafa is going to continue playing and go up in the rankings because he has hardly any points to defend from here on out. He will eventually bag another victory over a top ten player and the confidence will start to grow again. I have confidence he will be a contender again, but the French Open will remain his best shot at a major. I still believe he wins another.
