Well, with the latest voter count make that 8 rounds and counting.

Its almost inevitable what happened, pre-Trump McCarthy failed to get the votes for Majority Speaker in ‘15 so its not like he's ever commanded the clout needed. If more saavy politicians such as Paul Ryan and Boehmer were beyond frustrated and experienced burnout, McCarthy is already toast.

At this point its going to be a thankless & miserable job even if he gets it, Gaetz and company love the disruption, and demanding that only one member needs to ask for a vote to oust a sitting speaker, allowing some of the Freedom Caucus to serve on the House Rules Committee, etc is going to leave the Republican Speaker completely toothless and impotent. Those disruptors like Gaetz have no intention to let him serve anyway, (he said "Either McCarthy withdraws or "we construct a straightjacket that he is unable to evade") so now just it's rubbernecking to see how much public flagellation McCarthy can endure.

He has no agenda or vision, and apparently his core argument behind closed doors was "I earned this job." Entitled much?

Nothing was going to get done anyway regardless if they approve this clown! He's like a past comedian called Norm Crosby; a maloprop!:face-with-tears-of-joy:

we may look back in a couple of years and say that the Dems were lucky to lose the House. This could be an appalling disaster for the GOP. It seems inevitable that they will be exposed for their lack of either ability or desire to govern. I don't think that's why they were given the majority

this makes a lot of sense to me. I'm no Glen Beck fan, far from it. But... I can attest to having conversations with folks on both sides whose eyes are starting to open and a repulsed. People are waking up from the extremisms of both sides. Don't know if it's too late, or if enough people have had this awakening... but it's a start

thought this article was really interesting...

I ask that about a number of demographics! What was on the minds of women who voted for that slime, Trump? He talks condescendingly to & about them, been married 3 times cheating on each wife, & raw-do##ed a porn star! The man went on TV bragging about how he buys women w/ gifts and furniture! Fk'n idiots; being typical, jealous females who can't stand other women succeeding with intelligence or beauty! They've always been their worst enemy, not men! Hillary was betrayed "Big Time" along w/ the country! :thinking-face::astonished-face::fearful-face:

Hillary’s problem was being Hillary. She was the only Democratic candidate who could have lost to Trump. And she did. She is loathed by a huge number of Republicans, who were motivated to stop her.

It's still irrational hate going back to when her husband started his run for president in '92! She was a career woman & a high powered attorney! Conservatives couldn't stand it, encouraging women to show their typical spite of another woman! I don't care how much she may have been loathed, to turn the country over to a tyrant like Trump is inexcuseable and I'll never get over it! It shows how fk'd up the country is and I'll never give it a break when we're spoken of so disparagingly! We love to think we're above it all, but we're as fk'd up as any backwood, banana republic! After what Trump put this country thru, we can't signify on anyone; even Putin! :slap::yes:

I agree about the irrationality of the hatred. I wasn’t trying to justify it and commiserate with them; I was simply pointing out that the Republicans‘ hated of her is so intense they voted in Trump.

I was quite taken by this conversation. I hate to say it but I understand why some people would think like Bill Barr. There is a threat coming from well meaning Democrats that ordinary folk should fear. It's a horrible choice. These folks are slipping in laws to enforce how we think. We have to hope that either Democrats regain their common sense or we get a Republican who believes in democracy. If I was an American voter in 2024. Absent of Trump or one of his sycophants I would probably feel compelled to vote for the Republican. That's just the way I feel. It blows my mind that even now Democrats are so deflected by election denialism and some of the more anti-democratic Trump nonsense they don't get that they are starting to represent a far greater threat to freedom than Republicans. Weaponising empathy, slowly moving towards a place where children are being sexualised, placing feelings over science and fact. These are not the requirements for a functioning civilisation. Why is that so difficult to understand?? I hate the fact that someone like Barr who I loathe is speaking more common sense than them!

It seems like a great Ponzi scheme. Kiting of money in the extreme. He inflates his assets, which should inflate his tax liability, but somehow no tax liability. Surely this is why he never wanted anyone to see his taxes. It's why I also believe he didn't really want to be President. He just wanted to improve his brand. Surely this is more scrutiny on his finances than he ever expected or wanted. Now he's running for President again, just to keep the wolves at bay?

Exactly. This was a publicity stunt gone epically wrong. I think he didn’t anticipate remaining in the race that long, and got caught up in the momentum. Many people have said his true intention was to raise his profile in order to renegotiate TV contracts.
