one thing's for sure. Biden had better stay the hell away from trying to dissuade any attempts to prosecute Trump. In fact I think he has to set up some sort of Commission to review a lot of things that have happened over the last few years. Children in cages, Russia and frankly the link between the Gulf states embargo of Qatar and the debt relief the Kushner's got for their 666 5th Ave property are 3 big ones for me (last one is more my personal interest I'll admit, the other 2 are beasts of a different vintage).

The key point is that Biden and his team need to understand that part of what gave life to Trump support... and the reason why I think Dems are associated with rich elites... is how easy the Obama Administration was on Wall Street bankers. That was political stupidity of monstrous proportions. Something I don't think a McCain Administration would have done. Republicans always understand that you have 2 choices as a politician. Let the media/opposition blame you for what's gone wrong, or find someone to blame!

Regardless, Trump will be gone from office by January 20. The looming question is how much influence and political clout he will hold over the GOP after the transition to private life. I don't think anyone really knows the answer to that. If the two Georgia Republican senators hold on to elected office he and his adherents will claim credit that it was solely on his coattails, if not......

If Trump continues to be the kingpin of GOP politics, something no losing President has been in over a century, how long before someone in the GOP with their own political aspirations challenge him?

Trump is such an odd case; it seems clear that never approaching 50% favorable approval ratings while in office and now with a political track record he would have a much harder road to hoe if he attempts a 3rd Presidential election run. He's lost the popular vote by substantial amounts and there is nothing to suggest that those same voters would vote for him in 2024. Yet paradoxically Trump could be too strong to overcome in Republican primaries if his base comes out in droves. At the same time, some of the political animals of the GOP (Hawkins, Ted Cruz, etc) are drooling at tapping the Trump base for their own agendas from here through 2024.

wikipedia has an excellent 2020 general election usa results page for folk who do not know too much about usa politics like me.,
i noticed the black vote was 87-13 percent in bidens favour, so thats a big factor.:ok-hand:older voters leaned trumpwards and no one seems to even mention the libertarian party (jo jorgensen) which seems to have made a difference one way or another in a few states.
younger folk leaned demwards.

While I agree that Biden should leave whatever legal repercussions on Trump to others and stay above that fray, I think the bolded above is overly simplistic. There are a lot of reasons that the Dems get associated with elites, and they're complex, and go back way farther than Obama. American politics is full of paradoxes and illogical non-parallel "parallels." The Republican party has been long associated with the rich, and certainly they still do. This new populism is a big swing for them, and there is a lot of emotion that goes into convincing blue collar white people that it's the Republicans who are looking out for them, and it has very little to do with the banking crisis of a decade+ ago. It has long had more to do with social issues, the "elites" being on the coasts and voting Dem. Also the "elites" being intellectuals, who tend liberal. And while we can never know, I completely disagree with the assumption that the Republican McCain would have held the feet of Big Banks to the fire.

Trump is the GOAT of mismanagement. He burned the House down and he most likely is gonna get Mitch FIRED. The Bizaro version of King Midas has done it again. MITCH will not be missed. Pence is NEXT on his list.

well well well... looks like the Dems have won both runoffs. That rather neatly caps off the Trump era. A reality show moron who accidentally tripped into the White House. A man who never got more than 47% support from the electorate, who was so colossally narcissistic he sabotaged the chances of the party he nominally led from maintaining power in Washington. I have my popcorn out watching this next cycle to see how the GOP handles this. Will that party go the way of the Whigs or will the cancer of Trumpism be destroyed. As things stand it's hard to see how the party survives. It's very interesting to me to see Tom Cotton - a man with something of the night about him - seemingly rejecting the Trumpian side and standing up as a "constitutional" conservative. I honestly didn't see that coming, particularly given his ill fated NYT Op Ed piece... So it seems like we have Cotton on one side, Hawley, Cruz and Rubio on the other... :drums:

... I have serious doubts about Schumer's abilities as a Majority Leader though. He'd better get right on it wrt confirming liberal judges. He shouldn't waste a day...

Give Trump credit. He kept his word. He drained the swamp. MITCH Lindsey Ted and all the rest of his henchmen. Kelly aka Karen as Trump called her followed her Master's lead. Now she can pack her stuff and leave town..What a bunch of idiots. Bizaro King Midas (Trump) turned everything into SHIT just like his niece said he always does. Well at least he has over 350 million dollars and growing as his Golden parachute..Only Donald Trump could be so brilliant at being himself.. Maybe The new senators will lend him his 11,780 votes he coveted.

I’m not a fan of Schumer either, especially in the current political climate. The Dems need a new leader.

Which senator would you like to see lead them? It needs to be someone much younger than Schumer, Feinstein, and the other 70+ year olds (and there are a lot of them). Booker? Klobuchar? Bennet? Duckworth?

hmmm... my base case is that we're likely to see a few years of economic recovery and a general tone of positive risk sentiment. That's not an environment for a strong dollar. I rather expect the dollar will trend weaker particularly against the pound and euro. But if my view changes I'll post it here.

PS, Forgive my presumption, I'm a currency trader so this is my area of specialisation

Who would have thought that Trump's legacy would be the first post-reconstruction black Senator in the South, the first black woman VP, and a Jewish Senator in the South. The gods of irony are having a field day

Totally! I think she should be made head of the DNC by acclamation. Imagine the damage she could do in Texas, Florida and North Carolina. Maybe even places like Ohio and Iowa. She's who causes the likes of McConnell to wake up in a sweat in the middle of the night

That’s an excellent idea! She has shown what she’s capable of.
