Yes, and it was a protest based on no facts or reason. It was a dumb protest with no logical or statistical basis. There were more unarmed blacks killed in Democrat-run Chicago last weekend than were shot and killed in the entire USA by police in all of 2019. So Kaepernick's protest was completely low-information and dumb, just like your entire political perspective.

Trump bastardized it to say it was disrespectful of the military and the Flag.

No, if anything Trump understated the case because Kaepernick was protesting far more than just police brutality. Kaepernick was trying to give a total F U to the country's heritage, the flag included. The message was very clear.

And the reason that Kaepernick was doing that is that he is a poorly educated modern American who knows nothing about history. His perception of race relations and black suffering in American history is entirely warped.

Apparently AntePaleolithic's sub-literacy is rubbing off on you. The article I cited that Fauci contributed to in the New England Journal of Medicine was dated May 21, 2020. That was long after the dumb masses started believing in mask-wearing. In the article we see what Fauci knows to actually be the truth, but what he doesn't say publicly for clear political reasons and to maintain his fame as a rockstar scientist who gets pop culture adulation and interviews galore. Straight from the article:
