And he lost today. Cilic taken to 5, too, btw, by Denis Kudla, and he can't blame the US crowd. And RBA beat Sandgren. Hurray!Just a fun fact: Feliciano Lopez, playing Carballes Baena right now, continues his record streak of consecutive Major appearances...this is his 73rd. He'll be 39 in 3 weeks. He passes Roger's record of 65 at the 2018 Wimbledon.
As a Nadal fan, you should remember that Nadal was given a very hard time for winning the 2017 USOpen, with a reduced field. Some Fed fans compared it to a 250. 6 of the top 11 players didn't play, due to injury. Neither of the players from the 2016 final played in 2017. This year, I think 4 of the top 11 are not playing. And, while the defending champ is not here, the finalist is. I agree that significantly, this is the first time since 2002 that neither Roger nor Rafa is in a Major. However, the Majors are not just contested between the Big 3, no matter how it seems that way. But if you think that this is a gift Major to Novak, you should remember that some think that 2017 was a gift to Rafa. If you reduce the importance of this one, just because of 2 players that didn't play, you open up the conversation to reducing others. Also, remember: Djokovic is 6 matches away from winning this tournament, and I for one am not prepared to gift it to him, just yet. With many top players not here in the U.S. Open it doesn’t seem like a real slam, there is some talk that it should count as only half a slam, so basically if Novak Djokovic wins he would be at 17.5 slams total. What do you guys think? It seems very fair.
Don’t forget about the Greek , he is in good shape.Djokovic Medvedev final seems most realistic.
Murray giving everything he has before retirement. Big respect to the Scot.
My pick for the finals is Tsitsipas v. Medvedev.Don’t forget about the Greek , he is in good shape.
For me Daniil is the clear favorite of the bottom half.

I don't see Tsitsipas as much of a threat, especially in a late stage of a slam when Novak steps up his game and usually just handles the bussiness. Seems like Novak knows how to deal with him when needed. Maybe greek would be a bigger threat if he was lower seed and they met in earlier rounds and Novak didn't know his game well (like when he beat Fed in AO), but SF against Novak at this moment when he is also unbeaten this year and with enormous amount of confidence I don't see it happening.Don’t forget about the Greek , he is in good shape.

It is possible for sure. If so, my pick and hope is Daniil. My pick for the finals is Tsitsipas v. Medvedev.
Interesting point friend. I hope you are right, i am still confident.I don't see Tsitsipas as much of a threat, especially in a late stage of a slam when Novak steps up his game and usually just handles the bussiness. Medvedev on another hand is a much bigger threat and if they meet in a final I feel like the match could go either way.
