Thanks for that information, I don't really remember that

at that time -- ithink he reached number 2 behind sampras - and was at the height of his career at the FO (forget if he was the losing finalist or in semis) -
and then he had - ooopss career ending injury to his arm...elbow i believe..and that was it...

they used to compare him to ivan lendl and all the iron-man type players. and he made so few errors, very, very precise player.

^ Must be. ;)

How's Murray not English? I don't know anyone who is more English than Murray.

His first language is English, he lives in England married to an English bird and before the referendum he was campaigning for staying with England.

I didn't know about SAS but considering Del Boy is much more iconic than them I wouldn't be surprised if it was the other way around, that they adopted what Del used to say.

He is a Scot through and through, pro Scotland being in
Okay, I thought he was maybe a Scottish because he was swearing as much as Billy Connoly and Gordon Eamsey. But I think his best argument for being a Scottish is that English people absolutely hate him for whatever reason.
Totally true for me! He is a Scots Nationalist, wants independence and has frequently been very critical of England! He can play great tennis but I would rather see anyone else win!

I only wanted to make some jokes about Murray, but seems I touched many nerves here which I didn't intend, so we better stop with that.

I think all the quarterfinals were very entertaining matches and better players won. We will hopefully enjoy the last 3 matches as well.

Djokovic-Stan would be the most interesting final now. Novak's path has opened up so nicely, all things considered.

Well I think they are, sadly. Historically that is totally understandable - England's crimes against the Scots were appalling albeit over 250 years ago.The Scottish National Party are very active, very well led and want independence. The referendum before the EU one on Scots independence was very close. I don't have strong feelings about that to be honest.
My dislike of Murray is based on his on and off court behaviour rather than his nationality. I total recognise that he is a great tennis player but as someone here (sorry I can't find the post now) said in this thread when talking about Wawrinka sometimes what players do or say just doesn't sit well with one. But I have no wish to annoy Murray fans, just wanted to acknowledge Mastoor's point that many English dislike Murray. I repect his last post too. We all like who we like and dislike who we dislike!
Looking forward to the semis now!

I think it's more banter than anything else. The Scots invaded England plenty of times in the past... six of one and half a dozen of the other.... and the English throne was annexed by James VI of Scotland.

I would estimate more English fans like Murray than don't like him.
