Djokovic-Stan would be the most interesting final now. Novak's path has opened up so nicely, all things considered.

Agree. Stan has played Novak tough in recent times and he's also won 9 consecutive finals when he gets to the last dance... I have no doubt Novak will dispense of Monfils... but big question marks over whether Stan can best Kei. Still, gun to head... I'll go with a Djoker/Stan final.

I only wanted to make some jokes about Murray, but seems I touched many nerves here which I didn't intend, so we better stop with that.

I think all the quarterfinals were very entertaining matches and better players won. We will hopefully enjoy the last 3 matches as well.

No worries @Mastoor - the banter is good.

In popularity here I think Fed would beat Murray hands down. But Brits do like a winner and we don't get many in tennis so when he wins he is popular. But when he whinges and whines it is a different story. And Lendl was never popular here. Unfortunately with Murray we also get his mother.....!.

Historically it's the Highland clearances that was the damning action of England and thats what I was referring to.We made Scotland into a wasteland and called it peace. Anyone visiting Scotland, go to Culloden. Nothing the Scots ever did to us could be as dreadful as that and what followed was even worse.
I agree there is a lot of England v Scotland banter but there is also real resentment too on both sides. Since Brexit it has flared up again. I dislike Nationalism in sport - I would rather appreciate the skill and the personality and forget nationality.

A large part lof the Highland Clearances were done by Lowland Scots who regarded the Highlanders as Irish. Sure, they were in league with the English crown which was basically German at the time. The majority of English people were treated like slaves in those days also....

True but tell a Scots Nat that the Highland clearances were not all done by the English! They still talk of us playing ball with the heads of brave Scots!
I think bringing in German George and the Hanoverians was disaster, it was the actions of that line that led to the Brit Empire and all that went with it for which England will be paying for centuries.

Who would guess what a discussion of the US Open quarter finals would lead on to!

^^ Ha @Mary it happens. One thing leads to another and then you find yourself talking about non tennis things. Or I should say I, it happens to me often. :yesyes:

I fell asleep last night, I was so tired it couldn't be helped.

I am sorry for Delpo, but I think that when he reflects about these past couple of months he will be proud of his achievements. He couldn't even play this tournament for the past 2 years.

And the schedule for tomorrow's semi finals is set:

Starting at 3pm local time:

Djokovic vs Monfils
Nishikori vs Wawrinka.

Considering the short comeback, Delpo is on a good schedule to keep doing well going forward. No surprise he ran out of gas. And Stan played really well. For all of his unpredictability, he is predictably strong in the late stages, the last few years.

Well hopefully I will get to see a full Novak match today. We are 5 hours ahead, I have religeously set alarm for 2am or there abouts to watch him only to get the retirements!

It's great to see Del Potro playing well again, he has been much missed. Would love to see him win a slam next year.

I could enjoy that. I'd love to see Monfils win it all, but I know he has the least chance of the final four.

for me the chance for each to win it all would break down to:

Djoker 55%
Stan 30%
Kei 14%
Gael 1% - i thought zero but got to give him something.

It's Djokers to win here, and he deserves it after a few tough months for him.

I can't say what level Novak is playing because I haven't see him to hit more than 5 balls but I've seen Monfils playing pretty well and injured free at least until this afternoon.......hope it's going to be a great and fair match

For Gael to win, Djoker has to take sleeping pills!

Agreed, Novak deserves to win this USO, he has had very tough opponents and playing long matches, he probably has to be very tired but it doesn't matter, today he has a easy win, his opponent is playing pretty bad........

Stanislas will battle for too long with Kei, but eke out a victory. Novak will end the Frenchman's run with ruthless efficiency. The final is another story, as Stanimal always seems to play up when facing Novak in a big final.

break already. Monfils is not ready yet. He changed his serve btw. Wilander pointed that just out, looks different indeed.
