So if we get the Fedal semi, which is the likely scenario, has there ever been a match that's a "final before the final" more than this, in any sport? I mean, it's the two greatest tennis players of all time battling for a shot at taking on Kevin Anderson or Carreno Busta.

Just saw the highlights and there were some fantastic points played there. Maybe we should give these guys some credit.

When you put it like that... Yeah, it's crazy.

Carreno Busta must be the most uninspiring semi finalist here at the us open since sjeng schalken in the early 2000s.

Cilic wasn't great either.

Now we move on to the second very exciting QF of the day: Querrey-Anderson.

Unbelievable that one of these three is going to make the final.
I guess CB could reach the final, he hasn't lost a single set, he looks fresh and sharp

Well, Anderson could possibly defeat Rafa, on a good day at least, being a big server.

Being a big server the same applies for Federer. Game-wise though, it is the kind of player that, on average, Federer deals better than Nadal (and I guess it is the other way around regarding PCB).

Well, nothing is for given. I never expected Cilic to win, but he did. Anderson is actually looking pretty good right now

Well he proved he has the ability after taking out Murray a couple years ago in the 4th round! If Rafa insists on standing near the backstop, I see a lot of aces down the middle and spinning him off the court; esp. on the ad points! :p

First time watching Rublev. He has no serve, no legs and no defense but other than that he looks great !

That's a bit harsh, and i don't agree. I'm not watching the match but I've watched him before - he seems to serve well and move well. I think he's just overwhelmed with facing Rafa; he hasn't shown the ability (yet) to moderate his emotions. He's like a Baby Kyrgios, although not nearly as volatile.

This shit is too slow and the chap is too green for this to be a match. Rafa will put enough balls in play and let the guy hang himself.

Granted I don't know him that well, but he has no legs to speak of...that effects his defense and his serve immensely. Maybe he is tight. But looking at his serve speed, it definitely is not a weapon. I do love his ground strokes though, when he is on offense.

Can you fellow posters imagine my luck?
I am watching tennis to uh... get away from some things.
I said I will get all my work done after Rafa's match.
And then the dude proceeds to annihilate Rublev, allowing him to fight like his life depended on it for 1 or 2 games per set. It's like he is racing to finish it, and being quite successful at it.

But I am glad he is in such great form. Rublev is a very inconsistetnt ballbasher, but Nadal has hit some spectacular shots.
The semis will be magnificent.

You're absolutely correct. I recall listening to Brad Gilbert a couple of days ago and he off handedly said that Rublev wouldn't stand a chance against Rafa because his movement wasn't up to scratch yet. Seems that way

My thinking too. Abysmal. He gave a funny interview after last match though.

I only like Shapovalov somewhat so far.

I hope Novak returns quickly and manages to stay healthy. This is just horrible.

:facepalm::sick::wacko::cry:

No way. There is no way.

I only have very modest hopes for Del Potro. But he needs to beat fed first. If fed makes it past dp, the final is on Saturday (or whenever they play that semi).
