Agree about not winning a slam but she's hopefully winning this match at least.

I'm surprised she won, but no, she's won't win the tournament.

I too feel the same way. i.e., she will not win this or any other GS.

Having said that she seems to have a clear path to the finals now. I will be
very surprised if she is not a finalist. Once she is in the final, who knows who
will be on the other side and what will happen. Stranger things have happened.

I'm predicting a Serena vs. Jankovic final, with Serena winning.

Don't sleep on Errani. She's a very crafty player, and now that she doesn't have to worry about doubles, she can make a run to the finals.

Woz is the heroine of this tournament! I unmuted the tv to hear her on court interview.

Congrats! Go rest your poor ears.

Caroline most definitely had the support of the crowd. On many of Maria's winners they were either silent or barely clapped. They did clap during her mistakes and Caro's winners. I wonder if the lack of crowd support affected her during the last set? She sometimes had the defeated look on her face (although Caro's winners could have put them there, lol). Carillo even remarked about the lack of fan support for the former USO winner. I just think many people are tired of the shrieking. Congrats to Caro.

Stats for the match:
Maria 39 Winners--43 UE--3/7 breaks --86 points
Caro 22 Winners--17 UE--4/11 breaks --95 points

In other words, Maria lost because of her errors. It's not like Caroline's anemic winner count got the job done.
Maria tried to hit Caro off the court but could not. That is why she had so many errors. Once plan A (bash and scream) did not work, there was no plan B. This has been the main problem for Maria, if she can't out-hit you she loses. Imagine how many slams she could have if she was willing and able to make adjustments to her game? (and also if Serena was not born, lol).

This is WTA buddy, I hope you don't have ATP numbers in mind, those Caro numbers win the match 90% of the time in WTA competition. I've seen many many matches won with negative winner to UE ratios.

But I want to mention again, in Caro's case, if you commit more than 30 UE's Caro makes you pay! One doesn't commit 40 errors and get away with it, period.

But I am serious, Look at Sara's numbers today, then you know what I mean, Sara won with 4 winners and 9 UE, this was a 3 set match Sara won , scored a love set at the end, with 4 winners!
OK, that was the extreme but Serena was 14 winners and 21 UE yesterday! Should I go on?

Rain is expected into early evening hours, the day session has been called concluded.

Just reading though some match reports regarding Woznicacki v Sharapova match

Apparently Caroline complained to the Umpire in a break that Maria was taking too much time on her serve.

What you are saying is very true? This is the state of affairs in WTA these days.
But, it is a sad truth.

The best point of the match today was when Caroline converted the break point for the
first time in the third set. Although it ended with an UFE of Maria, it was a beautiful rally
with tremendous defense shown by Caro.

A video of the point I was talking about has been posted by Pavlik in tomorrow's WTA thread.

So happy the screaming ball basher is gone. I could not hear whom the crowd was supporting because I had to mute the tv. I can imagine that Woz has picked up more fans recently because of the Rory incident. People want to see her do well as a message to him.

By the way, Pova is not affected by the lack of crowd support. She does not care about anything except winning. If she actually had any concern for what people thought, she would not be selling candy, telling people she had a pregnancy test after being crushed by Serena at the Olympics, yelling "check her blood pressure". What an idiot!

The amazing icon and star of women tennis! :laydownlaughing
Kerber, Navarro, Ivanovic, Caro beg to differ :D
They all destroyed cheater in the last 2 MONTHS but they will never play prime time on the main court.
They are just "average" in the WTA soft brothel... find another description I gave up. Its a kids brothel ;)

Women Tennis is rotten big time at present.
