That was gigantic meltdown by Gorgeous from serving for the match to losing the set without even getting it to TB.

Naomi will have to dig deep if she wants to flip this H2H

Osaka came out flat, she needs to pick it up or she will be out,

If Osaka happens to lose the match Barty will take over No 1 come Monday

Close first set from Osaka and Bencic. But Bencic perhaps winning the set just on the basis of their last 2 matches. She certainly earned it. Served well mostly. Returned fantastically the whole set. Osaka perhaps not playing at the top of her game. But not far off. And I'm sure Bencic has another level too. Neither woman letting their inner perfectionist demons out either. Keeping it in check. Taking the misses in stride.

Commentator just said Bencic has lost just 6 points on serve, 3 of which were double faults, since being broken back up 2-1 in the first set.

Good for Vekic to level up against Goerges. Just battling. All the fighting she's had to do this year doing her well here.

Osaka needs to stand on the baseline more

Bencic has good anticipation, stands inside the baseline and is able to re-direct the ball

I cannot see Osaka getting out of this match, she really has not played well since the AO.

She's as flat as a pancake today. That's what is called a letdown. She expended so much focus and energy on not losing to a 15 year old that she can't get up for the rest of the field

Just another great game from Bencic. Osaka not playing horribly. Bencic just ready for it. Creates better than Osaka. And anticipates Osaka's moves better. As she has the last few times they've played. In the drivers seat now. And the way she's serving... she may not have any recorded aces, because Osaka won't let her. But she's certainly got some unreturnables and the only thing hampering her on serve at the moment is her own double faults.

Osaka will need to hope Bencic runs into some nerves and also needs to find another level. A different strategy.

I'd be fine seeing Osaka come back and make this a classic. But I'd also be ok with Bencic moving on. Her return to the very top of the game is a long time coming.

Yep,I had a thought this might be the case, still you have to 'get up for every match' regardless who is on the other side of the net

Why is a trainer on court? I don't believe for one second she is injured. She should just take her azz whippin like a woman

Osaka just has to think about her game here, she needs good first serve, she is a better server than Bencic, also she has to return Bencic 2nd serves, which are rather weak.

Osaka not moving well to me

Found some good first serves and some winners off of those good first serves. Does what she needs to do. Make Bencic hold. Keep the pressure (that Bencic doesn't seem to be feeling) up. That may be all she can do. Was struggling to win points until that service game.
