I think Federer was very tired today. The humidity got to him. I actually think he fought through it well, but Millman was simply better in every way. He deserves it, but I am devastated right now. That was the most painful match to watch I have seen Federer play.

Tired of what? Prior to this match he spent only five and a half hours on court in first 3 rounds none of which he played in extreme conditions.

Fed totally tanked to not face Nole, let’s be honest about this. Otherwise it’s time for Fed to call it a career.

Did Djokovic stink the place out against Chung at the AO so he didn't have to face Federer? Sometimes these guys just have a plain bad day at the office.

BTW, Federer has now completed consecutive La Decima at US Open.:facepalm::facepalm::facepalm::facepalm::facepalm::facepalm::facepalm::facepalm::facepalm:

He failed there for ten years in a row starting from 2009.

Perhaps not on purpose, but he was definitely thinking of Nole what made him lose focus against one opponent he played this night.

He got tired. If he yanked to avoid anole why did he get to Double Set point in the first, set point in the third and up a break in the fourth and within two points in the fourth. These guys are hungry competitors to the finale. Maybe he will have days like this; he is 37 after all. But he may also have good days.

Seems Federer didn't feel like facing Nole in the quarterfinal so he imploded and turned into a UFE machine like he sometimes does. He's only a human after all.

This might be the stupidest comment of the year. Just 3 months ago people were righting Djokovic off and saying he should retire. Now you're claiming Roger was skeered to play him. I've seen a couple of Nole's matches this tournament - and he hasn't exactly looked invincible either. The bad news for Roger is - he played 1 bad match too many at this tournament.before the big marquee matchup - again...

of course I will but federer because he played really badly not because of injury, as far we know right now, if he says he was not 100% in the press conference than ok cool.
Clearly, he was not 100%. I always suspect, nowadays, when he serves that badly, that his back is bothering him. Could be heat and and a bad day and a very good Millman, but he wasn't anywhere close to his best.

MEOW! LOL! Yeah...I watched that Sharapova mess and couldn't stop laughing.. I really can't stand her and I was LMAO when she lost because apparently Suarez Navarro doesn't have any warm and fuzzies for Sharapova either. They barely shook hands and Suarez pretty much immediately ignored her. I was so busy laughing at that that I should have known that was a clue that Roger was going to suck tonight. I'm 100% serious when I say he need to give Uniqlo their money back and go back to Nike. It's bad mojo to change a major sponsor after 20 years! Now the pressure is on to win a Slam in his new gear...and he's sucked ever since...
Oh, right...it must be the ugly Uniqlo pajamas. :mail:

It's no mystery why either - Roger - and about 200 of the talking heads - have all said the court was playing like a clay court this year and that it's as slow as it's been in over a decade. Hmmm...what happened a decade ago? Oh yeah...Roger won his 5th straight US Open and the court's been getting slower and slower every year. Pat McEnroe and Brad Gilbert were talking tonight about how slow the court was and how Roger was having trouble hitting through the court. Of course that doesn't excuse Roger playing like caca though...cuz it's not the first slow court he's ever played on.

That's fine just as long fedheads not try and down play milman win by saying federer was injured, then cool he fine he was not 100%.

Actually, you can't compare Novak's AO with this, because Novak was injured back then.

I'm sorry, but I think this is ridiculous. Federer is no shirker. You don't win 20 Majors but by believing you can beat everyone in front of you. Remember when he beat Novak in RG SF 2011? That was because he believed he could beat Novak, (and did,) and if he was looking forward, that he had a chance v. Nadal.

Pajamas? LOL! You're too kind. I see why Djokovic jumped ship when his contract ended. The clothes are fug. I'm not a guy so I thought maybe I was just missing something with men's fashion.

Well 2011 was 2011. It is now 2018. He didn't even look like himself and he definitely choked because he thought of the match he didn't play.

I think we can put "men's fashion" in quotation marks, but Anna Wintour sits in Roger's box. She could give him a few tips. Seriously, my dad had pajamas in that color and same piping. That kit didn't say so much "power," as it said "good-night, aged P."

Maybe Mastoor needs a reminder that Roger is the only tennis player to NEVER retire from a match in his entire career. He's not a tanker either. He's not going to get to 37 and start tanking matches and ruin his legacy.

He didn't look himself, but stop trying to make it all about Novak. He didn't choke today. He just played really poorly.

I thought skipping Toronto will do good for him at the USO. Nope, it didn't work out.

I would recommend Fed play DC, skip Canada and then play Cincy as prep for USO next year.

At this point, playing more tournaments will not help Federer that much. It is just matter of managing the bad days more often than the good days. Besides, at age 37 (age 38 next year) he wants to conserve energy as much as possible for the Slams.

You're assuming there will be a next year! I was ready for him to exit back in 2012 after his Wimbledon win! Taking 3 more majors may have been worth it since Nadal was closing fast! Fed can't hang on forever! I said ages ago he wouldn't be able to defend all those titles and points from last season so no one should be surprised! Nole has a better chance to continue another ascent to the top! :yesyes: :p
