Wow! Simona was in control of this match and just lost it.

Meanwhile, Cibby is on the cusp w/ MP of her own.

Cibby is on a revenge mission. Fully intends to get to the final.
I know! Right! She is so pissed over her #32 seed and really you can't blame her. Somebody was going to get pushed aside w/ Serena's special seeding and it just happened to be her.

While it is technically not an upset, the loss of Cricketer Barty feels like an upset especially considering her opponent Kasatkina has a powder-puff serve. Barty was doing very well in the warm-up season and was expected to go very deep in Wimby to say the least.

It's the same thing on the men's side. All the players who did well in warmups are out except for Fed.

Four upsets already with potential for two more, each day is outdoing the previous day in upsets.

There were only eight matches played today. Five of them ended up as upsets of seeded players.

1. Seed # 1 Halep ousted by S-W Hsieh
2. Seed # 15 Mertens taken out by PR in straight sets.
3. Seed # 26 Gavrilova sent home by Sasnovich
4. Seed # 27 CSN ousted by New Swiss Miss
5. Seed #28 Kontalight taken out by Van Utyvanck (who came out of closet recently).

Though technically not an upset, the loss of Ashleigh Barty definitely has the feel of an upset considering she was a heavy favorite in that match.

At this time, there is only one player standing tall (literally also) from the top 10 and she had to struggle big time to avoid an upset in the last match.

Also, 25 of the 32 seeded players have been sent home already.

Finally, this means there are more non-seeded players (9) in the second week than seeded players (7).

Starting from 2019, there will only be 16 seeds to begin with. That is one way to minimize the number of upset of seeds.

16 seeds wouldn't really help in this year's situation w/ 9 of top 10 already gone before R16

That was a tongue in cheek remark saying that at least the number of upsets will be limited to 16. :negative:

In reality, the move to reduce number of seeds is actually to promote upsets in early rounds.

Today is a relatively quiet day despite being Manic Monday.

There were only two upsets and only one involving a seeded player.

1. Pliskova ousted by Kiki Bertens thus clearing the top 10.

2. Makarova taken out by Giorgi thus making Caro happy. :p

Of the 8 players left now, four are seeded in the range 11-15, two are seeded in the range 20-25 and two are unseeded.

She's been around for years. She has to be in her late 20's by now. She's taken some big scalps in the slams before, but I don't see her beating Serena today.

Well Rena down a set and it is 1-1 in second. I say, anything is possible.

Of course anything is possible, but it will likely go 3 sets and do we think Camila can keep up this level for that long? At some point she will throw in the DF's and UE's she's known for.

Camila has better chances if she can get it done in two sets, but she is already down a break in 2nd.
