Most picked Petra to win Wimby. She showed us how foolish we were. Again.

Kvitova OUTHIT by Sasnovich 46 64 06 -

She was my pick to win Wimby.

I thought she dropped out of Eastbourne as a matter of precaution and not due to real issues.

Did any one see the match (I didn't). Was it that she generally sucked or she was having physical issues.

She has a self-destruct button that she could turn on anytime she wants to though.

She dropped out of Eastbourne to attend the WTA player party on Thurs. :yesyes:

Another one bites the dust - Maria Sharapova ousted by a qualifier Diatchenko #132 76 67 46 - only problem - she's as big a howler as Maria :(

The body count today is 4. Overall, the first round saw the exit of as many as 10 seeds.

More importantly, 4 of top 8 seeds (#4, #5, #6, and #8) all gone.

The casualties are listed below.

1. Seed #6 Garcia ousted by current Swiss Miss Bencic and in straight sets.
2. Seed #8 Kvitova, pre-tourney pick of bookies (and me) ousted by Sasnovich.
3. Seed #24 Meldopova taken out by qualifier Diatchenko for whom this is the first match in main circuit for the season.
4. Seed #30 Pavly exits, thanks to Hsieh.

There were plenty of upsets of non-seeds as well. I believe the loss of Ana Konjuh, Watson and Sakkari are all upsets (have not checked the ranking explicitly).

Hsieh is the Asian Aga. Amazing ball striking skills.

Sad to see Petra exit, but nothing she does surprises me any more.

Early upset alert. Vee might be done today. Dulgheru is up a break and is hitting deep shots.

Don't know if you can say it's a surprise but Vika is ousted by Karolina Pliskova 63 63 as expected.

That not a surprise H. She's not back to her championship level and I don't know what it will take for her to get there. I guess when I think about the Vika situation, I'm baffled as to why she didn't play more. I understand she couldn't travel outside of Cali w/ Leo during the court order, but I find it hard to believe there were no challenger events in Cali that she could have played. It would have allowed her to play competitively and regain her level but not against the top players.

Yeah, she's up 6-0 4-1 now. Tracey Austin just made a good point. Since Venus is a slow starter, she should go out and play one practice set before her matches. It would allow her to get warmed up and into the mindset of playing so that it will translate when she actually starts the match

Aga in trouble. Drops the opener to Lucie and down a break in the 2nd.
