Not really. His ranking was completely overstated due to late 2017 injuries and anyone who watched Sugita v Federer at Hopman Cup knows the guy can play. Besides scoop, I doubt anyone predicted anything great for Sock this year.
No, it was an upset, and bad result for Sock. His ranking isn't wildly overstated, and he was coming off a good end of last year. No one is saying that Sugita wasn't a tough 1st round, and good for him, but Sock underperformed, no doubt. Hey, maybe Scoop is trying to out-do Tignor as the new Kiss of Death. :drums:

I officialy declare Roberto Bautista-Agut the greatest spoiled princess pusher of all time. I had the son of a gun reaching quarters on my bracket.

lol damage is limited for me, only a third round predicted.

GSM publically called a semifinal spot for her highness for bragging rights, lol.

Pretty routine first round. Sock being out is surprising I guess. I'm happy Isner is out as I had no interest in seeing him vs. Nadal.

Me, too! What an idiot bandwagoner I am. Stupid pusher princess, indeed! :lulz2:

All kidding aside, pretty impressive from Verdasco. Taking out the no 20 seed in straight sets.
He's had very good results in Melbourne, and I debated the choice between the two. Another one no one has mentioned is that GGLopez beat Benoit Paire. That has to be an upset. GGL hasn't made much of an impression in a while.

Dimitrov is going the distance vs a guy named Mackenzie.
WHAT
THE
HELL
I have to admit, Mackenzie has hit some beautiful shots, and has a nice, watchable game but this is just disastrous.
How is he ranked so low? This is my second time watching him, I flat out thought that he just isn't capable of that kind of level at all...

I watched a handful of games spread out through the match and the kid is playing impressively well.

Good question. I went to sleep a couple of hours ago assuming he had the match in hand only to wake up and see they are in a decider.

Grigor finally prevailed but he played poorly for his standards

McDonald is from UCLA. I saw him play a college match last year. He’s good but Dimi shouldn’t have been taken to five sets. This doesn’t bode him for him

I first noticed Mackenzie when he was given a wildcard at some US tournament - maybe Indian Wells or Miami. I think he was ranked in the 300s. Not sure what his upside is, but he had a nice first round win against Elias Ymer (who seems stuck in the 100-150 range).

Thiem gets the break an on his way to evening the match. If it goes 5, I'd think he'll win.

McFly down 2 sets to 1 against Bradley Cooper
And a break in the 4th. He's going to have a long way to go to make good on his hype, now. Benneteau making the most of it, for a guy who's retiring...(I think?)
