WHat am I missing GS&M, I havent come across these nicknames before.. while I know who Black Heart is and can make a pretty good guess for Head Case, please enlighten me of the other 2 :)

Samurai = Kei Nishikori

Drug Addict = Marin Cilic (bit harsh nick name though, sorry Marin).

^ If Cilic is the only guy on tour with dodgy nods towards drugs I'm a monkey's uncle.

He certainly is not the only drug addict. There are other drug addicts too (e.g. Trociki).

Let me also say something positive about Cilic. For those who did not get a chance to
see the match between Cilic and Novak at IW, see the first set of that match.
Cilic was on drugs, oops, on fire in that set. Brilliant play and excellent ball striking.
If you did not know who is who and just saw that first set, you would think Cilic is #1 player.

It's clear that you, and a few others around here, really like to think so. I'm not completely clear as to why.

@GSM: Yes, I do think "Drug Addict" is harsh on Cilic. It's an awfully strong appellation, if you've ever actually known one. Perhaps you can work on that.

The new race rankings to be released tomorrow, the 14th of April 2014, will not show
any change in the top 8 positions. This is because the past week had only lowly tournaments
scheduled in it and obviously, the top guys did not play in it.

Pre-Alert: When the new race rankings come out on the 21st of April 2014, Murray
is guaranteed to be booted out of Top 8 (as he is not playing in MC)
independent of who does what in MC. Fognini currently trails Murray by
5 points. Even if the Fog clears in the very first round, he will get 10
points which is good enough to overtake Murray in the race rankings.
Actually, it is possible that 3 or 4 players may overtake Murray next
week.

Because with how flawed drug testing is, how easy it is to get around drug tests (for the most part), and the fact that science is always one step ahead (ie supplements are ahead of tests), it is absolutely naive to think only those who are getting caught are the ones doping. Silent bans don't help either.

And this doesn't just go for tennis. It applies to most sports.

a. Stan is now #1 in the race.

Funny how logical this has fallen into place considering the level of titles won by each player and subsequent failures by the "also-rans!" On another thread I've stated it makes sense to think of Wawrinka #1 in the world since he's won the lone major, a Master, and another event! Besides that he's beaten his top rivals, not just cleaned up after upsets! It makess sense for Nole to be in 2nd place with back to back Masters wins! Roger's obviously had a resurgence and beat Nole to eventually win Dubai! Nadal truly is pulling up the rear of the top 4 trying to defend so many points, actually going down early in clay events he was favored to win! The rest are surprises too, but obviously deserved positions; esp. Nishikori! :clap

Yep, that's what happens when you add numbers. Logical things fall into place.

Murray is currently ranked #8 in the regular rankings. There is a very high chance that
he will not be able to defend Wimbledon this year. If so, his ranking will fall below #8
after the Wimbledon. Once that happens, Murray's draws will be extremely difficult
for the rest of the year. Even his R16 matches will be tough. Hence, he will get into
the Vicious Cycle and fall even below. To summarize, there is a serious danger
of Murray not making it to London this year.

OCO, like said in "Absence Of Malice," "it's damn likely" he's not going to make it! He'd have to go on a tear I'm not sure he's able; those points he's defending at Wimbledon! At least the FO is all gravy if he can get somewhere in the tourney; semi's or final! Again, not likely but we'll see!

Aside the top 5, the other 3 spots are very volatile changing hands from one week to another. The year is still young, lots of things could happen.

I do agree that the other three spots are very volatile and there is lot of tennis yet to
be played this year.. I am worried that Murray may not make it this year. My worry is not
based on the fact that Murray is not in the current top 8 of the race rankings. My worry is
primarily based on my prediction that he will be out of top 8 in regular rankings after
Wimbledon and if that happens that will seriously impair his ability to add points as his
draws will become lot tougher.

Why are you worried? Are you a fan?
If he will play like a top 8 he will be there, do not worry. So far he was underperforming as compared to the last few years, that is why he is where he is.
He usually is pretty good in the second half of the year.

Good call. I am not so much "worried". It is more of I "predict".

No changes in the top 8 spots of the ATP race rankings to be released tomorrow.
The only change in the top 16 spots for this week is that Fog and Dog exchanged
their positions and are now 9 and 10 respectively. Cilic and Murray continue to
stay put at 11 and 12.

In the new ATP race rankings to be released tomorrow, once again there are no new faces.
The only change is that Stan and Novak switched positions i.e, cream is raising to the top.
Andy is now within a striking distance at position #9. Looks like Andy may get his act
together and play in London eventually (hope not at the expense of younger guys
Grigor and Kei).

1 Rafael Nadal ESP 4470
2 Novak Djokovic SRB 4050
3 Stan Wawrinka SUI 3635
4 Roger Federer SUI 2930
5 Tomas Berdych CZE 2555
6 Kei Nishikori JPN 2125
7 David Ferrer ESP 1980
8 Grigor Dimitrov BUL 1805
