Taylor didn't make it, I question her decision of playing qualifying here instead of playing in Korea or Guangzhou.

Martina Hingis and Belinda Bencic have been granted a w/card into the doubles competition

I take it that Flavia is not around.

Hingis/Pennetta have committed to playing doubles at Wuhan and Beijing tournaments.

Agree,Korea or Guangzhou would have been the better option for Taylor at this stage of her career

Madison Keys vs Lucie Safarova just started and stream is fairly good - English commentator (Tennis TV?)

Safarova lost first et 67 and is doing a bit better in second although on serve. Safarova wins second set 64 so going the distance - Safarova in charge. Safarova wins third set and the match.

Bencic playing really well against Kuznetsova - won first set 63 and is ahead 50 in the second - a bagel is in the oven ;) Svetlana a shadow of herself and bencic is finally giving out bagels herself after her double bagel loss to Caroline in Turkey. Bael coming up - well done Bencic.

Lucie is now in trouble, behind a set that was lost in a tie-breaker.
Lucie is the #7 seed here. This match seems to be very close, it seems every game is going to deuce.

I also noticed that qualifying is now complete.

I tell you, the times of this event are separated by a night and day here in USA.
Normally when we get up in the morning, the matches are finished. I am glad you are updating this one Hoergren, be my guest and do it for the next 3 weeks.
:)

Bencic celebrates her first round win over Kuznetsova and remember that this was the tournament where she last year got her first WTA victory. Bencic is also playing doubles with Hingis. Bencic is playing Safarova in round two and that will not be so easy.

And Kiu I'll do my best.

Next up another intersting match Muguruza against Pavlyuchenkova.

Well I'm 50% off on my predictions, glad Lucie won, and glad for Bencic, although I rooted for Sveta.

Oh Pavs you were serving for that 2nd set and got broken, your serve really let you down in this match,it is a area you really need to work on,you are one of the cleanest striker's of the ball on the tour, though you have never lived up to your potential.

Pavs is having a very poor season. She started the year so well by winning in Paris, defeating Sharapova, Kerber and Errani on her way, but it's been a negative spiral since then. The girl needs a new coach I think.

Great win for Belinda, but Sveta must have been atrocious lol.

Happy fro Lucie! Got through a tricky first round match against Keys.

Your best is better than most.

Mugu did Pavly in straights, very promising for her and not so much for Pavly.
I agree, she needs a new coach or something changed. It's been downhill for her since Hingis departed.

Time for a good match Date-Krumm vs Azarenka about to start. Vika behind 1 5 in first set with Krumm winning 63. Up in speed and Vika won second with a bagel. Krumm is slightly injured and that helps too of course. Vika seems to be running smoothly up 41 in third set so surviving the scare. She is playing well now. After a heroic fight from Krumm finally Vika is the winner 36 60 62 - next up is a thriller Anna Ivanovic.

Sabine having trouble with Casey on court 1 - also worth to watch 55 in first set. Sabine won first set but lost second and in third she looks to be in real trouble behind 03 and having a medical timeout - well well. A little upset is on the way:cool: Perfect after 2½ hour Dellaqua wins 67 75 62

Carla Suarez Navarro had some trouble with Nara and needed 3 set to get the job done.

Gajdosova ready for Caroline after a marathon against Hantuchcova - not expected.

Last match on center court coming up. [5] Sara Errani (ITA) V Marina Erakovic (NZL)
Can Errani find her momentum or is it Erakovic who continues to impress - we'll see:)

Weather still hot - 26 c and humidity 77%!

Errani in front 41 but Erkovic wins 1st set 64 - how about that. And deserved too. Erakovic wins second set 61 and is into second round and that ends Tuesdays matches. Errani continues slumping.

Sabine Bombed out following her win in Hong Kong, she clearly was out of gas by the time the third set was being played and the match dragged into 3rd hour.

There are reports that earth was quaking at magnitude of 5.6 while Lil' Domi was playing her match.

Well, she has that kind of energy.
