Extreme Weather Policy is in place,
Players have a 90 seconds sit down at change of ends.Players can have a ten minute break before a deciding set..(3 players have retired so far due to heat).

90 seconds time during changeover is the standard practice and is not due to extreme weather policy.

Apparently, Novak is the most popular character at the Olympics.

Novak always felt less love form fans, media and in general. So, he may feel that his other ambition of being loved is achieved (thanks to Fedal not being there).
Advertizing aesthetics are so different in Europe and Asia! IT was the same way decades ago where Connors and McEnroe could be boorish a-holes, but be very popular and $uck up all the advertizing $$'s! Lendl did pretty well for himself abroad; esp. over in Japan where he cleaned up as #1 in the world! Djokovic has always been very popular over in the Orient where he goes out of his way to speak their language; even Chinese due to his multi-wins in Beijing! :partying-face:

I think PCB will be upset by Cilic. Davidovich will probably will win against Milkman, but that is also a tough match.
Cilic could barely get out of a match from a guy that has never been higher than 167 in the world, or thereabouts. I caught that match at 6-all in the TB, 3rd set. Seriously.

By entering the draw and dropping out before stepping on to the court, Andy deprived a deserving player of the great pandemic (oops, Olympic) experience. :nono:
I thought you said almost no one wanted to play these games. Tell me who got deprived. And, as you pointed out, Murray is the defending champ.

Well they're off and running in Tokyo! I had no idea GB put Murray in the Singles' draw as well! What a waste, but I guess the defending champion has to make an appearance even if in an invisible wheelchair! That was hilarious from Mary, "it's only 11 AM and it's hotter than the hinges of HELL out here!" :face-with-hand-over-mouth:
See, and people don't appreciate how funny she is. Seems that when they played the Summer Games in Japan in the 60s, they played them in October, for just this reason. Too hot, bad air. And now it's just worse. Good thinking.

Actually, they did replace Andy by Max of Australia as Margaret and Fiero mentioned. Andy withdrew after the event began. If he does such a thing in a Grand Slam or an ATP event, they don't replace and simply give a walkover to his opponent. Here they did actually replace Andy. However, they simply had to find someone who has already made it to Tokyo. So, rightfully the spot might belong to someone else. But, Max did well for himself taking down FAA.

You are probably right. I was projecting the impression of Cilic that I had from before. I have not seen his recent matches. Also, PCB just won Hamburg and so should be in top form.

The best remark I heard about weather being hot is from Greta Thunberg, the teen climate change activist. She once said "The climate is hotter than my imaginary boyfriend". In fact all her friends created lot of huge posters with that slogan which they used to carry in their rallies. Not sure whether she is the one who actually came up with that or she just popularized it.

Davidovich Fokina serve for the match against Aussie John Millman, then served back to back DFS,Millman levelled 5 all 2nd set
6 games all.....t/break for the 2nd set
What a t/break both players making each one run ragged Millman wins the 2nd set 76(4)
Both players look done and dusted
Into a 3rd set we go.
After the 10 min break of the extreme heat policy Fokina came out with a controlled game and was serving for the match at 5-1
Millman again broke him and is serving at 2-5 in the final set.Fokina has to learn when serving for a match to play 'percentage tennis'
Fokina will now attempt to serve for the match a second time 5-3...he plays with little margin, has some good weapons but his coach needs to teach him to play 'percentage tennis' when it matters.

Davidovich Fokina defeats John Millman 64 67(4) 63 big hug at the net from both players, who gave their all in such horrid, hot and humid conditions.

Dutch player Jean-Julien Roger has tested positive to COVID-19 so he and his partner Welsey Koolhof have been withdrawn from the men's doubles.New Zealand Michael Venus/Marcus Daniell get a walkover to the q/finals.
