Massive Congratulations to Tsonga for winning the Toronto Masters and that too
after defeating four top 10 players in a row and that too, three of them being members
of the so called big four. :clap:clap:clap:clap:

No words to describe his performance this week, just when you have almost forgotten him. :speechless:

Congratulations to Federer on winning Cincinnati. He has now won an ATP 250, ATP 500,
and ATP 1000 this year? Will a 2000 be the next?

Congratulations to Lukas Rosol on winning Winston-Salem. :clap

This is his first title of the year and second title of his career. He has come a long way since being ranked 100 when he defeated Rafa on centre court of Wimbledon. He is probably the player who improved most (currently ranked 33) and has some consistency among all the players who recently came into limelight by causing an unsuspected upset.

The OP is now updated.

Nice job, but here's a niggle: why is Wawrinka listed as 6 in the group of those who have won 3 titles, when he won a Major and a 1000?

No slight. Read the OP carefully. I have sorted the list based on number of titles and among
folks with the same number of titles, the names are listed in alphabetic order for easy location
of a player in the list (as fans of a specific player would be interested in quickly locating
their guy).

I see that Nole won his mandatory 3 masters 1000 and a major per year. All he has to do is win WTF to match the last two years.

Always liked his style from the moment I saw him play at RG against Roger a few years back. Pity about his size. A little too small to be a contender. Not sure he's able to generate the requisite power to be truly successful. But he could be the new Mikael Penfors

I don't like Djokovic's chances of taking down Nadal this time at the World Tour Finals.
But still, one of Djokovic's best year's ever.

^ One is coming back from injury on his worst surface and the other has a baby on the way and therefore some non tennis related distractions but Djokovic has says he's very committed to the indoor season. Going by results last few years, Djokovic is by far the favourite at the WTF so I dunno where you're getting that from. Nothing but wishful thinking. Cilic may have something to say about it too btw and quite a few others.

Wow.. What is the basis of that? Sounds more like hope than reality. Rafa hasn't been playing. Yet you expect that the number 1 player in the world, winner of one of the last 2 slams, semifinalist in the other, to not be favourite? Again... wow

I didn't think Federer was playing well enough at Toronto and Cincy to win the US Open.
I know Djokovic had some shockers in those 2 events, but I was sure Djokovic would work his way into form at the US Open and have too much for Federer.
I think I was right, Djokovic would have beaten Federer in the final if they met.
I also think Berdych would have beaten Federer, if Cilic didn't eliminate Berdych.

I just did not see Cilic and Nishikori coming.
Vastly different to Australia, because it was obvious Wawrinka had a great chance of taking out Djokovic (based on the previous year's thriller).
But at the US Open, unbelievably bad timing for Federer, that he finally had no Nadal/Djokovic in his path, and not only does he lose the semi in straight sets, he almost lost to Monfils a couple of days earlier.

Either way, its great for tennis that some newbies got the experience of a slam final, to help them prepare for the future when they may have to play an elite in the final.

You seem to have a poor and short memory because they each beat the elite guys expected to be in the final. :cover

He is responding to a post dated 17th August on 22nd september with hindsight. It does not
deserve a reply.

^ But playing an elite in a slam final is far different to playing them in a semi-final.
Djokovic's chances vs. Nishikori would have been greater in the final (Nishikori looked inhibited on big points in the final vs. Cilic).

Nishikori now knows what its like to play a slam final.
Next time Nishikori plays a slam final, and lets say its vs Djokovic, Nadal or Federer, he'll at least have one less obstacle to contend with (the obstacle of experiencing his 1st slam final).

No it's not any different. Federer would've still lost to that possessed performance from Cilic in straight sets and you know it and so does he more to the point.

Not all players play their best tennis in their slam final debut. And you know it.

Nishikori appears to be one of those. Cilic and Nishikori had many searching rallies on breakpoints, and Nishikori netted some routine balls that revealed he wasn't quite there mentally on the day. He blazed away on the those same ball vs. Djokovic, for clean winners.

He reminded me of Soderling at the French Open, when Soderling beat Nadal in 2009, and Federer in 2010, but looked inhibited in the final both years.

Cilic in slam final debut vs. an elite? Looks like a better chance of success, but I'm not 100% convinced. It can be daunting walking onto the biggest stage against one of the best hardcourt players ever in the US Open final.
