The OP is updated now to reflect Halle and Queens titles. Incidentally, Grigor becomes the
first person to win titles on three different surfaces this season.

p.s. I hope to participate in discussions back again starting from second week of Wimbledon, when
I will be back home from my trip.

Do people here think Stan or Nadal has had the better season so far? Both have a major and a Masters 1000 each.

Rafa.

He's also reached a slam final and two other MS finals.

He's also leading the race to London...

Nadal. He's had the better, more consistent results. Expectations are what makes this a question though, since Stan really exceeded them, while for Nadal, this is normal, or even below par (given his clay season and shaky form). Nevertheless, results are results.

Dimitrov has won four titles on the four different surfaces.
Indoor - Stockholm
Hard - Acapulco
Clay - Bucharest
Grass - Queen's

Interesting stuff.

RE: Nadal vs Stan - I think Nadal has clearly had the better year. Stan has been pretty woeful since winning Australia with the Monte Carlo title a bit of a strange exception.

Rafa.

He's leading the race 'cos he's played a whole 3 tournaments more than Djokovic. He's played more tournaments than Djokovic, Federer and Wawrinka so far this year.

That's irrelevant. The question was, who is having the better year so far, Rafa or Stanley Wow!.

The answer is Rafa. They've both competed at all the bigger events...

Clearly Rafa has but the leading the race part is largely irrelevant too is all I'm saying ;)

Congratulations to R.B. Agut and Feliciano Lopez, the winners of Netherlands and Eastbourne
warm-up tournaments. For both, this is the first title in 2014. The OP is now updated.

Feliciano may be someone to watch out for in wimby.

The OP is updated to include Wimbledon result. Understandably, Novak and Rafa are
at the top with 4 titles each. Novak has more coveted titles than Rafa.

Congratulation to Agut, Cuevas and Hewitt, the title winners of this week.
The OP is now updated to reflect the results of this week ending on 13th July.

Of these three Cuevas deserves special mention as this is the first title of his career (other first time winners this year are Agut and Delbonis). Agut deserves special mention as he is keeping it
up (instead of becoming a flash in the pan) and this is his second title, apart from a good show in AO. Hewitt deserves special mention as he has the stamina and motivation to keep wining titles at this age. Also, Hewitt has accumulated a total of 30 titles making the fourth best active player in this regard, behind only Roger, Rafa and Novak (and ahead of Murray).

Just a quick thought on title count. I think gone are the days when some player
racks up about 10 titles in an year. I think starting from this year and for the
next five years or so, we probably are going to see a more even distribution of
titles. I think the max will be 8 or less this year (most probably achieved by ND).

In the recent past, Fed won 10 or more titles in three years, 2004, 5 and 6
(11, 11 and 12). Nadal did it in two years 2005 and 2013 (11 and 10);
funny that there is a 8 year gap here and Djokovic did it once in 2011 (10).

It's very difficult to get into double figures. If you win half of the "big" tournaments (slams, M1000s, WTF), that's seven. The "big four" have tended to win about two smaller titles each per year since they've been around. Nadal just made it with ten last year and that was considered an outstanding year even by his standards. Djokovic also got exactly ten in 2011 and some people talk about that as one of the greatest years from an individual that you'll ever see in tennis.

I agree that with the top guys being less invincible than they were (though I wouldn't rule out Djokovic becoming a pretty dominant force on the tour for a phase at some point between now and the end of 2015) and the likes of Dimitrov starting to build some momentum, we're probably finished with seeing guys get 10+ titles in a year for the foreseeable future. Djokovic is the only guy I can see doing it but as he only really plays a couple of 500s a year, even if he wins both he'd have to find 8 titles from the four grand slams, nine Masters 1000s and the World Tour Finals which is a tall ask even for him.

Congratulations Leonardao Meyer and Bernard Tomic, the title winners of this week.
For both this is the first title of the year. For, Meyer this is the first title of the career.

Looks like party boy has become serious after IMG decided to drop him.
Hope, he can keep it up.

Congratulations to Andujar, Cuevas and Isner, the title winners of this week. The OP
is updated already.

Special Congratulations to Cuevas for winning his second title of this year as well as
career within a span of 3 weeks. To do that, he needed to win over both the no. 1
seed Fog and no. 2 seed Ronredo on clay and that too on a single day as yesterday
was washed out. He won both in straight sets. Also, approximately his ranking is going
up to about 40 from about 120 in a span of 3 weeks.

Congratulations to Andujar for winning the first title in 2014. He played a memorable
final in Rio too. He did not win a title for quite some time although he has done so in
the past.

Congratulations to Isner for defending his Atlanta title.

That one was a semi final but yes, he played a great match against Rafa.

Congratulations to all three of these guys, Cuevas especially impressive.

Yep, that was an SF. Dog played the finals over there. But, SF was more entertaining
than F.

Congratulations to David Goffin and Milos Raonic, this week's title winners at
Kitzbuhel and Washington D.C. The OP is now updated.

Special Congratulations to Goffin as this is his first career title.

Also, special congratulations to Milos as this is his first tile in 2014 and also because
this is the biggest title he has ever won in his career. All his previous titles were 250s.

With Milos winning this title, now everybody in the top 8 ranking spots has won
at least one title. This does not always happen; for example Berdych was in top 8
last year without ever winning a title.
