Shocking he never got to #3. Thought he had in 2009 and quite frankly he should have. He had a better year than Djoker and Murray by any measure.

Tsitsipas will be in the top 20 regardless of what he does now and with not much to defend the rest of the year.

He came close
Just needed a deep run in AO 2010 but lost in 4R to Cilic in 5 sets and then was sidelined till Bangkok Open in September

Even in 09 it is shocking he didn't make it. He won USO, QF of AO, SF of RG, final of Montreal (I think), and final of YEC.

It all depends on the points of the whole season which is why Nole is draggin' down at the bottom of the top 10 with just a 500 final and Wimbledon title! Winning a major is no guarantee of even being in the top 10 I guess! You would think points from a major entitles one to more consideration, but it did come into consideration in '04! Gaudio won the FO, but was ranked YE at #10 and didn't qualify for the Grand Slam Cup, but a rule stating "winning a major he gets to go!" I think Agassi was kicked to the curb to make room for him! Del Po's won a Masters this year and has obviously been consistent enough to garner the #3 spot; what a joke! :nono:  :banghead: :cuckoo:

You are correct, despite that he finished 2009 only 5.
He passed Murray in early Jan. for a few weeks peaking at #4, then all went downhill from there.
I totally forgot how Novak managed to remain #3. Just looked it up.
Novak won Paris masters, Dubai, Beijing and Basel all 500 events and Belgrad. And finals in MC, Miami, Rome and Cincy.
These have earned enough points to the tally to keep him in the top 3.

Connors used to be a perennial #3; this era's been Nole's in everyway possible! That top 4 or 5 ranking in weeks is going to get extended sooner or later!   :ptennis:

I looked at Nole's ranking and it seems Delpo won't stay long at number 3. Nole may replace him at #3 after USO where he doesn't defend any points
