New career high:

42. Denis Shapovalov 19y
44. Stefanos Tsitsipas 19y
59. Marco Cecchinato 25y

The only two teenagers in the top 100 are now ranked close to each other, will be interesting to follow how they develop further.
Cecchinato took a big leap after he won the event in Budapest, surprisingly.

Maxi was on nobody's radar. We need to see whether it was just a boost provided by local tourney or there is more stuff to him.

First I noticed him was the AO when he reached R3.
He also qualified for USO, and has made it into main draw of a lot of the recent clay tourneys, and also either IW or Miami, I think. Not a World beater, but not Mickey Mouse. In any case, his name has been popping up more of late.

Two guys who beat Djokovic in the last two/three months on this list, Daniel is down on #82 but just won an ATP. While I agree he is losing more than he should, the competition is not as bad as people sometimes seem to believe.

Fred may get robbed of another YE#1 if Ralph keeps this up.

Don't troll the rankings thread, please. This one has always been much more about who's moving up, etc. and is specifically NOT a Fedal one.

By reaching SF in Madrid, Shapo's live rankings has climbed up to #29. He has no points coming off till mid-june. So, he is virtually guaranteed of a seeding (for the first time) in a GS at this RG. Good job, Shapo!. Now, make sure to maintain your spot in top 32 for the next 10 years.

Nole dropped to #18 which is his worst ranking since October 2006.

I guess they have only 16 seeds at RG and he won't be seeded this year, is that right?

Zverev is actually inching closer to Fedal but he does have 1000 points to defend this week. An early loss and he will be quite a bit behind again but looking at last year he has very few points to defend aside from Canada.

Zverev could run into Edmund & that won't be a easy match.

Zverev could run into Edmund & that won't be a easy match.

Had Edmund been taken under the wing of Murray to help him come out of nowhere to make an impression on the tour? This is the oddest top 20 I can remember; (not that impressive since my memory's failing me these days)! Just a couple years ago there was the staple of Fedalovicray leading the way, then a fall off of 2nd tier pros like Berdych, Ferrer, Tsonga, Gasquet, & Del Po! All of a sudden, "also rans" like Isner, Querrey, Sock, Dmitrov, Anderson, & Cilic are flying high while some "Next Gens" are scrambling and trying to recover from injury like Milos & Kei! Is Sasha or Thiem ready to take that next step? I personally think not, but it would be nice if they could continue this roll and not burn out before Paris! That's where it really counts! I'm still trying to figure out is this the result of a weak era being led by Fedal 10+ years after their rivalry for supremacy was put on a media pedestal! This would be like Connors and Borg at the top of the tour in '86 instead of Edberg, Becker, Wilander, & Lendl! If this winds up being another routine Nadal clay season, followed by Roger defending his Wimbledon title, I'll say it's weak because the players are so much better physically! Obviously they're having trouble psychological to allow Fedal to lead the way this late in their careers! Winning a major is one thing, but to be #1 & #2 in the ranking too shows not only their strength, but the weaknesses of the tour to allow this to perpetuate in 2018! :nono: :negative:

Novak #1 in late 2023...
Rafa #1 in late 2022...
Sampras #1 around this time in 2008...
Agassi #1 in late 2007...
Becker #1 in 2004...
Edberg #1 in 2003...
Lendl #1 in 1996...
McEnroe #1 in 1995...
Borg #1 in 1993....
Connors #1 in 1989....
