Nekro

The tapping riff and the long solo at the end of the song are amazing :clap

Big fan of Oasis and the Gallagher brothers, particularly the "What's the story, morning glory" album / era.

Liam on vocals for the first, then Noel and then Liam.

Back on a Mozart tick: K250, the Haffner Serenade.

It's an eight movement work, weighs in at about an hour, basically a symphony surrounding a 3-movement violin concerto. Composed for a pal's wedding. Background music, and stuff like that. The pal - Haffner - is long forgotten, except for being attached to this serenade, and the likewise named Haffner Symphony, which Wolfie also generously composed for him...

Front! That was so thoughtful. Both were new to me, and I liked them in ascending order. First not so much, last was the most fab. The combination of rap and flamenco really did it for me in Torre de Babel. Thanks!

Cool. Glad you liked them  Same with me, prefer the 2nd and 3rd ones best although my wife showed me the first one Silencio first a few years ago.

Any Jam (or Paul Weller) fans?

The Jam -- has there ever been a more enigmatic band for US audiences? I know they were HUGE in the UK, but they absolutely failed to translate to success in the States. Every few years I'll listen to one of their two albums I own -- "All Mods Cons" and "Sound Affects" -- and I still don't get it.

And now the blasphemy: for me, the Style Council's "Cafe Bleu" is a desert island disc. I know, I know. You don't have to say anything else. ;)

a lot of folk say 'setting sons' (1979) is the jams best album

..singles like; down in the tube station at midnight, going underground, strange town, the eton rifles..are worth looking up, all those singles are 1978-80.

A few weeks ago heard Twilight Zone by Golden Earring, never heard before. Liked it, downloaded their Biggest Hits album, and found this wonderful song:

Yeah, very sad to hear that yesterday. Love his album New York. Saw him in Dublin a few years back, as part of a Leonard Cohen troupe of cover singers. He put his liver through the ringer but even still, the guy was like Tommy Lee Jones, granite and remarkable...

This is from the Julian Schnabel documentary of Lou Reed performing his album "Berlin" live in Brooklyn a few years ago.

Gary Numan doing a cool live version of RIP. Many people only remember him for the older stuff like Cars and Are Friends Electric. Rip is a good example of the industrial edged harder stuff he churns out these days.

Led Zepplin were honored at the Kennedy Center. Never thought I'd see that. Heart sang "Stairway to Heaven." It's not as good as the original, but worth it to see that it made Robert Plant cry:

Now, for the original:

This is a great live version. Give it 10 minutes of your life:

The day the music really died: 5 December 1791.

Listening to Mozart's violin sonata, K377, performed by Daniel Barenboim and Ithzak Perlman...

Christmas Songs

Ok guys, the christmas spirit has begun! I don't usually get into the swing of things until about a week before, but the die has already been cast in the ATP forum.

Favourite christmas songs?

I like the first couple because they remind me of the real meaning of Christmas, the third is a great tune because it reminds me of the day you finish work and head back to the family to begin proceedings. The last two are British-oriented.... the kind of songs you stagger round the pub listening to, hugging everyone.... telling people they are your best mate...

I love the Chris Rea song, actually. It's one of my absolute favourite Christmas songs. It isn't cheesy, either, like a lot of them. In fact, I humbly declare Christmas to be a time when blokes can listen to Mariah and George Michael without shame. Their usual musical transgressions are forgotten.

I love Santa Baby, by Eartha Kitt, The Christmas Song, by Nat King Cole, and any Christmas songs featuring Bruce!
