Well, it started off easy, and then got wobbly. This is what I have, so far. Hopefully others can fill in:

1. Janis Joplin - Piece of My Heart
2.
3.
4. Billy Joel - Pressure
5.
6.
7. Alannah Myles - Black Velvet (I had to look up her name)
8.
9. Michael Jackson - ?
10. (Beatles?)
11.
12. Cranberries - Zombie

Very good work Moxie, You certainly know your music.

Numbers 1 and 10 are not correct. However you got the songtitle right on the first track/snippet.
Clue: Janis did not record the original.

Actually, I'm not doing that well. I did think for one second that it wasn't Janis, but I don't know another version. Let's see if anyone else can add on. I'll try to give it another go tomorrow.

For sure moxie. These will come to you. Have a feeling you know your music. Except perhaps for the aussie band. LOL I just have to put two or three tricky snippets in there, not just base it on really famous tunes.

I got:
7. Alannah Myles - Black Velvet
12. Cranberries - Zombies

that Moxie had got. I also thought Janis Joplin on #1. I didn't get Billy Joel or Michael Jackson.

I've also got:

8. Phil Collins - I can't dance

Recognise a couple of the others but can't put a name to them!

LOL it will come to you, I'm sure. The Phil Collins one is really Genesis song but I'll take that.
Good on you britbox. The Michael Jackson one was an album track only. One of about 4 'trick' fragments in the piece.

Thanks britbox LOL No... But I started up a similar challenge on a Elvis website I'm involved with and thought of doing one here but with other artists only.
OK a clue on snippet #10.
It is a guitar riff by an iconic four-piece band who were once known as the golliwogs before they changed their name. What was the Band's name ?

Oh, I loved Genesis. I saw them once in concert. In Houston, rather randomly. RZ, this is a very hard quiz. Perhaps you could start us off with an easier one? Or, if the snippets are going to be obscure, could they be longer?

But don't get me wrong...I haven't given up yet.

Hey Moxie, fair point. I'll give you some cryptic clues here and there OK. But it's really just 3-4 of the snippets that are tricky.

Regarding the guitar riff on #10 (which you answered as Beatles)can you think of another 4 piece iconic band who were from the US and started out under a different name as the Goliwogs (I kid you not) ?

#10 is Creedence Cleewater Revival, then, but I have no idea what song. It's not really their signature folk-funk.

Regarding Take Another Piece Of My Heart, she (deceased now) was the sister of an iconic soul music singer and recorded the song two years before Janis (beats Janis version IMHO)

Yes moxie it is CCR. That's the reason why the quiz features some lesser known fragments. This is the song (Gotta luv the guitar riff, let's rock now ...)

OK, we can argue if this is better than Janis's version, but we can say this is where she got it. It's Aretha's sister, right?

Now then, you answered Michael Jackson on #9. The track was on his 1979 album 'Off the Wall'. Do you know which song it is ?
