Thank you very much, Vince. You certainly picked three all-time ABBA favourites, Horsa. well done.
As for me, while their famous records are well known and played , i have over the years , discovered their final works such as the VOLEZ VOUS, THE VISITORS and SUPER TROUPER records (long players in those days). These albums yielded some interesting music in keeping with the times, 1979 - 1982 , where they were adapting to disco music or getting out of their confort zone in other words. ABBA copped some flak over this back in the day, but it was no different to what other singers and groups were doing (Streisand, The Bee Gees , Rod Stewart, to name but three).
Thanks for telling us about your new chat room. All the very best with your new venture(s)
I'm still in a Beatles mode -
I'm nearly always in Beatles mode.
Thank you very much, Vince. I've already created a "Music room" there for people to share & talk about music. A "Saturday Night" chat-room had been created for me so I turned it into a "Saturday Night party" room where we share music & talk about it. (That Saturday Night chat-room was very popular & I got asked where people spoke about & shared music the rest of the week other than in the music appreciation thread so created the music room.) Hmm! It is a hard question you pose. I agree with the 1st 2 of your answers. If you posed the question to me I'd have just come up with the answer "They are/were good". I will pose the question in the music room. Thank you very much for the idea.Horsa , i have a subject (albeit music related) you may want to put to chat room. What is it about the BEATLES music that still resonates 50 plus years later with new fans? To me, it must be either, or combo of, three things:
1. Music was (and is) timeless and influential ; they set the bar and trends against what other artists material must equal (I Believe only THE BEACH BOYS did so with their PET SOUNDS album). Well -crafted and melodic music.
2. In some respects, obsession with the Beatles and other music legends , a reflection on how poor today's music and images.
3. Very effective and strategic marketing by the two living Beatles, widows Olivia Harrison and Yoko Ono, sound engineers such as Giles Martin and management Apple Corps.
I hope you like it too. I don't know whether you like the Moodies.
I'm glad you like it. It is a good song. That’s my favorite Moody Blues song.
That’s my favorite Moody Blues song.
Time for some E.L.O -
hows about some cool, short and sweet 1960's instrumentals mono-style?
and i never quite understood (or get) what ever was the big deal is about Pink Floyd, especially in the sixties Syd Barrett member. Excepting the track "Money" I have no time for Floyd's quirky songs titles and lengthy tracks. Their music Bores me to tears. Led Zeppelin certainly had their moments.I've never understood how Beatles can be considered better than Floyd. Beatles songs sound like nursery rhymes, simple and silly. Beatles are overrated.
Meanwhile Floyd's songs are so beautiful, meaningful, deep, melodic exploring all the issues and themes of life. Perfection is what they are and DSTOM was their greatest album. Not to mention David Gilmour's soloing. Such a nonchalant guitarist with simple but legendary tunes.
I can only see an argument for Led Zep to be better than Floyd because individually they have the greatest musicians. Page = greatest guitarist, Plant = greatest vocalist, Bonham = greatest drummer. So I can see where Zeppelin fans are coming from when they say they're better than Floyd.
