I'm very sorry for all the old songs recently but I've been put in charge of conducting a 1940's sing-song on a 1940's day we're in the middle of organising at work & all the old songs I can think of are running through my head & I'm thinking "Was this song about in the 1940's? Will I be able to teach this song, get people to sing it & keep the timing going?" (I know I can use the ones that are always used like "When the Saints go marching in", "She'll be coming round the mountains", "Leaning on a lamp-post", "White cliffs of Dover" "A nightingale sung in Berkeley Square", "Yes sir, that's my baby", "You are my sunshine" & "Bless 'em all" but I'm wanting to do something else too. Then I'm trying to think of all the words because sometimes I can think of some of the words but not all then at other times I can think of the title but not remember the words. The funny thing is when I play the songs I suddenly come up with all the words at the right time so I can sing it right. I'm also wondering whether I should print out some hand-outs. I've got my costume & make-up sorted.

Did you manage to get in a Doris Day tune? Bless her. She left this world a few months ago.

But what an legacy she leaves behind.

As you can tell by now, i love the rare stuff and sharing them with you. Hell i used to play this stuff when i was DJ'ing on community radio way back when.

What follows is some Pre- Creedence tunes before the band achieved fame. Their 1964-1965 records are clearly modelled on the british beat sounds before they developed their own sound as CCR that the world knows - and loved.

I didn't. Thank you very much for the suggestion. I've still got time to type another hand-out though before I find my dark red lipstick & do last minute vocal work. I'd have done it already but I've been busy working on the museum-floor the last couple of days. (I've found out all my costume & make-up except for the dark red lipstick which I thought I'd found out until I put it on & it came out bright red. They only had dark red in those days. Bright red came out later.) I was sad to hear she'd gone. I agree.

It will indeed. Thank you very much.

I've just found out that I can add another 1 which was about before the 1940's so would have still been sung by some at the time which was later sung by Doris Day.

This is it.

This is Doris Day's version. (The 1 I'm most familiar with.)

In memory of her, the song of hers I like most.

You're welcome. My favourite Doris Day films are "Calamity Jane", "Don't sit under the apple tree" & "By the light of the silvery moon".

I've just thought I could add "Don't sit under the apple tree" & it would be easy to teach.

Thank you horsa. So let me get this straight. You were recently put in charge of / will be involved on hosting a 1940's themed night of music and films, is that right?

You're welcome, Vince. I've been put in charge of the 1940's sing-song on 1940's day today. I'm not working tonight.

Linda's version of the Hollies song. Rhino in the USA have finally seen fit to release an audio only of Linda's Hollywood 1980 tv concert recently.

I enjoyed that. Thank you very much for sharing. I joined in which I shouldn't have done as I got a sore throat from singing (teaching singing & 1940's songs) most of the day yesterday but I enjoyed myself.

This is another track from the Rhino Linda CD "Live in Hollywood 1980 " but audio only at this time.

Myself and many Linda's fans have been wondering whether the label will also be putting out a DVD or bluray.

It has not happened yet, probably due to copyrights.

Wow! That's amazing & really belongs in the archives. Thank you very much for sharing.

(Some people who've been paying attention to what I've had to say recently might be thinking to themselves "She would think that. Part of her job in heritage preservation is to be an archivist." I think anyone with any interest in soc. history would think the same as me though as well as the fact that it's good that it's been saved for future generations to see & needs to be saved for the benefit of future generations.)
