I saw Barbie. I wrote about it here and won’t repeat it because we disagreed on that one, and there’s no need for us to disagree again on it. There’s always something new to disagree about so why waste time on the past?
You’re right that films in America are generally driven by trends and a belief that regurgitating a successful film might result in two successful films. But they’re also seriously crippled by anachronistic casting practices and storylines that are based on and promote modish far left politics, and have neither wit nor imagination in them. It’s kind of like when Bud Lite promoted deranged sex ideas. Does anyone think Bud Lite gives a shit about the rights of men in dresses to flash their junk at ladies? Of course they don’t. They saw a freak horse getting cheers and they thought, hey, we could get us some! They completely misread the room.
Which brings me round to Snow White. When the activist start spouting debunked cliches, and openly displayed her own personal prejudices, Disney thought, this is where it’s at, we could get some.
There’s no art in that thinking, no vision, no beauty. There’s only wretched people making themselves feel miserable.
So we DO agree on a lot here, especially that “none of their choices are brave, or interesting, because they're trying to second-guess what will appeal to the most people and offend the least. They recycle and rehash too much, too.”
I agree with this completely. Unfortunately they tend to think that the most worst politics available is actually the thing that will “appeal to the most and offend the least.”
Go figger, eh? Maybe they’ll learn?
