I saw "The Bikeriders" yesterday. I thought it was awfully good. A subculture of Americana, in a particular place and time. Not so much plot as documenting it. All of the actors are very good. Based on a classic photoessay book by Danny Lyons. Oh, and it was shot on film, which always sings to my soul.

Watching Layer Cake now--half way through and it is improving. Too much chaos in first forty minutes but now it is coming together nicely.

That's the Bob Marley biopic? How was it?
It is.

I didn't expect it to be so gory as I didn't realize his country was at war when he was performing and that he performed to try to bring peace to his country and others and that he brought the peace to his country or that someone tried to assassinate him. I learnt a lot and got emotionally involved in it. He was only 36 when he died of cancer. 36! Wow! That's way too young. The songs were sung well and they chose a good actor to play the part of Bob.

I haven't seen it, but figured I could always enjoy 2 hours revisiting the Bob Marley songs.

You definitely could. They're good (Although too gory for me to watch I enjoyed listening to the story behind the film and the music and singing along. *Most of the time that's how I like to watch T.V. or films as I can do other things at the same time. I think you'll have to watch all the end credits as all the original songs are played while the end credits are coming up on the screen.) I think you'd really enjoy the film.

Just watched "Grosse Pointe Blank" again, after many years. Such a good film...wry, hilarious, romantic. And an awesome soundtrack.

I watched it last night - liked it a lot. Tom Hardy is always fantastic and Austin Butler was very good. I still can't tell if Jodie Comer was really good or a bit...forced? Her accent sounded very much like "I'm an actress trying to sound like I'm not an actress." But otherwise she was very good.

Anyhow, I was left with a feeling of sad nostalgia - feels like an America that we'll never see again. Of course the story arc sort of covers that by the end, and we're left feeling like Benny whistfully smiling at the sound of those engines.

p.s. Michael Shannon is always so great. I almost feel like he's the Gen X Christopher Walken.

Jodie Comer is generally more than a bit forced. Terrible show, that one she’s in, Killing Eve.

I’ve been moidering people trying to get them to watch Godzilla Minus One, a really great film. It’s not a monster mash film, a Marvel-type popcorn brain drain, it’s a truly great film, about trauma and the effects of war, it’s got great references to classic monster terror flicks like Jaws, and also 1950’s style film making.

You won’t regret Godzilla Minus One…

I have heard that one is great. It's actually still playing around the corner from me. Thanks for the tip!

Well, go see it on a big screen if you can, because I’ve only seen it on the laptop. Would love to have seen it in the cinema. This is a bona fide emotionally punchy film, with a terrific story…

Yes, quite emotional storyline and has the older movies vibe. I liked it a lot. Way different than repetitive and empty Marvel flicks.
