Whatever the case, Djokovic's fitness and Nadal's lack of it will be the number one reason that Djokovic passes Nadal on the GOAT rankings by the time it's all said and done. H2H, Total Slams, Masters titles and total tour titles will be in Nole's favor soon. The final nail in the coffin will be when Nole wins the FO. Until then, that will be Nadal's last little bit of sunshine he has left.

After winning fourteen slams, Rafa has no sunshine? What the heck is wrong with everybody? :laydownlaughing :lolz:

If he can stay healthy and focused, all of that could be in the cards.

You'd have to provide some evidence that Stan and Andy weren't "focussed." Sounds a bit like fanboy propaganda to me

:snicker Can't be any more "fanboy" than the stuff you and Miss Carol post.

Your pithy and erudite commentary was sorely missed during the shellacking. Glad to see you regrouped and returned to form! :D

At least you're on a higher level. I'm fending off people who are suggesting that Wawrinka is better than Murray.

Not yet he ain't. :snicker

Well, Stan is a lot better than Andy at getting rid of women. Andy should learn a few tricks from him there - before it gets too late... :p

Against Novak, he's 2-8 in their last 10 meetings, 1-8 in their last 9. Maybe "not yet".

Career wise, he still holds the edge. But looking at the play of both players of the last two years? Novak is better. In the past both guys have mounted significant runs against the other. Do you believe Nads has the ability to do that again?

I think that when this era is ended, most sane people will conclude that Fedal and Djoker are more or less on a level. The past four years, by the way, have been blighted by injuries and recovery for Rafa, so that's impacted negatively on him, but even still, he made great results on comeback in 2013, the last time we saw him at his best. This year, he still hasn't fully rediscovered his banjo.

Will he ever? I've only ever said he will, sporadically. I still hold to that. Rafa has a lot of miles on the clock since breaking through as a 17 year old. It's only natural that he begins to show normal wear and tear right now...

Rafa seemed completely unable to do anything Novak's serve. I think he didn't even manage a 15-30 or a Deuce in any game or was able to put Novak under pressure when his first serve went missing in the sixth and eighth game of the second set.

Rafa did serve quite OK in my opinion, but his poor performance on return and inability to break up the cross court patterns that make this a pretty comfortable match-up for Novak especially on indoor hard courts meant he was rarely able to force Novak to play defensively and was always susceptible to being broken when Novak raised his intensity. Novak was great at the start and very good in the end but apart from playing a clean match on serve wasn't forced to do anything special otherwise.

Novak of the past few years is just an incredible bad matchup for Rafa. too say that he is better than Rafa is just looking at the recent results. Would you say that Novak is better than Fed,, today yes but careerwise no.. The same case with Rafa. Rafa's team have done an incredible poor job in making adjustments to the 2 phase of Rafa counters that is currently being instituted by Novak and team.

I was really baffled by Rafa's lack of energy today..
