Hey General CD,

Also hot over here. That's summer I guess...

Doing calculations in advance to check if Vilas got to number 1. It's a lengthy process and most difficult even with automation, as I have to build a calendar each year, decide what categories tournaments were and put together missing ATP data.

I reached January 11, 1971.:D

That's not top 10, herc. That's like top 15. :p

Here's mine. Know that I am a very big fan of Sci-fi and thrillers, so they tend to dominate my list. And I've gone one step further and listed 20 of them. I am sure I am still missing quite a few. Like for instance, I like almost all the Hitchcock movies. I am not happy about my order though as I rushed a bit and didn't give it proper thoughts.

1. 2001: A Space Odyssey
2. Solaris (Russian)
3. Stalker (Russian)
4. Se7en
5. Memento
6. Silence of the Lambs
7. The Exorcist
8. Contact
9. Fight Club
10. Fallen
11. Shawshank Redemption
12. A Clockwork Orange
13. L.A. Confidential
14. Blade Runner
15. The Thing
16. Mulholland Drive
17. Kill Bill Vol. 2
18. Star Trek: The Motion Picture
19. Pulp Fiction
20. The Godfather (first)

A terrific list, especially for those into sci-fi and thrillers. Some great titles: 2001, Solaris (I love that you picked two by Tarkovsky!), the Exorcist, Blade Runner, Memento, Clockwork.

I smiled when I noticed you included Contact. I've watched that more than any other film. Dozens and dozens of times. I owned it on VHS, DVD, and now Blu-Ray. Yet I always get something new out of it every time.

I am glad you liked my list. I've seen only 2 movies of Tarkovsky and they both top my list. You can tell the genius he was! I've also seen the American version of Solaris with George Clooney and it was okay. Cloony seemed like a misfit or very Hollywoody.

I've seen Contact probably 3 times and it feels like time I watch it again. Though Carl Sagan was mainly a materialist, something I dislike, I still liked his work. And as you know, he was the author of this book but didn't get to see the movie as he passed away before then. Contact is clearly a masterpiece and worth having in our collection. I have movies like Powder, Donnie Darko, Fallen, The Day the Earth Stood Still , Se7en etc in my collection. Some of them are a rare find so I'd like to keep them.

Alien (and not Aliens as it's only a brainless action flick. I didn't hate it though.) is another of my all time favourite film. Speaking of sci-fi action, I really liked both Predator and The Terminator. Matrix should have been in that list as well. I also rate The Bourne Identity quite high. But I have seen many unknown gems like the Moon, or Another Earth or Blue Velvet that I didn't mention. It's just hard to rate them because every one of them stands out in their own unique way.

I'd like to see your list of all time great movies. Maybe I can find a gem there too.

where is princess emma? emma take a close look at this picture. look at the faces of the people in the background.

they are so happy for him and it shows. all eyes are on andy in this picture:

something this historic could not have happened to a nicer guy. he and his mom had been dreaming about this forever.

I was entertaining 15 people (family members and friends) last night and was very busy! There was a lot of clean up after they left so went to bed very late at night and woke up very late this morning.

That' s a nice picture, herc. I've seen this before though but it's good to see Andy in that environment. Andy plays a lot for his country as it means a great deal for him. And no matter what the naysayers say, there's no one on tour who'd wanted to win this title more than Andy and it was his time as well.

That's a good list too. I liked the highlighted ones. I don't think I've seen King of New York or Ever After. I also have not seen The Two Towers. Never liked Star Wars as I've always found Star Trek far superior.

Other than the first two, this isn't a ranking, just a list as they pop into my head. I'm a movie nut, so I'll have to force myself to stop at some point:

Persona
8 1/2
Contact
Annie Hall
Star Trek VIII: First Contact
The Lives of Others
Lord of the Rings: Fellowship of the Ring
Children of Men
Alien
Bringing Up Baby
Women on the Verge of a Nervous Breakdown
The Fire Within
Apocalypse Now
Dog Day Afternoon
Fanny & Alexander
Beautiful Thing
Howard's End
Rosemary's Baby
The Big Blue
Kieslowski's Three Colors trilogy (especially Blue)

OK, I'll stop for now. In about 30 minutes, I'll think, "How could I have possibly forgotten ___?"

The King of New York is an older movie from the late 80's starring Christopher Walken as a drug lord. It was kind of an indie film but Walken played the role to perfection. Ever After is a cute and original rendition of the Cinderella tale w/ Drew Barrymore, Dougray Scott and Anjelica Houston in a rousing performance as the evil stepmother. Besides, they used many cool castles in the making of this film.

Great list tented as suspected. I've highlighted the ones I haven't seen and look forward to it. I find it so funny how we are listing different Star Trek movies but they are all very good. The reason why I chose Motion Picture first as it was pure sci-fi and remained very mysterious until the very end. I was intrigued.

Star Trek II -- great to find another Trekkie!

The Godfather -- great movie.

I still love Jaws. I could watch it every summer. It hasn't aged a bit. The first 8-10 minutes alone will stay with you forever.

Heat -- one of my favorite performances by De Niro. He's so understated, yet in the middle of an incredible action movie.

Oh the mention of Christopher Walken just reminded me of his other movie The Dead Zone. That should really be one of my favourite all time as well.

I know of Ever After but was never too keen on it. I meant to tell you that while Goodfellas was a great movie, it didn't make my all time list is because, I was completely satisfied after the first view. I don't know who uses what kind of criteria, but in my case, any move that keeps my interest alive for a long time or a movie that makes me want to watch it again and again typically makes the list.

My favourite De Niro movies are Taxi and Cape Fear. The latter in particular was very creepy.

I have not given any 'likes' to anyone. I just don't remember to do it as it's such a new feature for me to use.

Emma, like Tented I'm a movie nut as well. Some of my favorite movies will not be oscar winning performances. Out of the romantic comedy genre (I call them romedies) I like Ever After and Return to Me. That's just me. My definition of a top movie would be one that has great acting, is original and has a great mix of cinematography, costume, music, great screenplay and directing all rolled into one.

I really liked Return to Me. It's very underrated. I love comedies as well and have seen quite a few. I like romantic comedies as long as they come in right packages. I loved Bridgette Jones for instance and there are others I liked quite much. I basically like everything as long as it has a very nice plot and if both the acting and directing are top notch.

Today I watched Rendition. Typically I avoid movies that involve politics or terrorism but this one wasn't too bad.
