which one is the real castle?

Aha! It's a trick question: depends on your definition of real.

Picking my favourite castle was tough but I’ve had to go with Stirling Castle. It’s one of Scotland’s grandest castles due to its imposing position and impressive architecture.

It towers over some of the most important battlefields of Scotland’s past including Stirling Bridge, the site of William Wallace and *Andrew Murray’s victory over the English in 1297, and Bannockburn where Robert the Bruce defeated the same foe in the summer of 1314.

Situated on a volcanic outcrop guarding the lowest crossing point of the River Forth, Stirling Castle is a great symbol of Scottish Independence and a source of enduring national pride. The castle’s long, turbulent history is associated with great figures from Scotland’s past, such as William Wallace, Robert the Bruce and Mary Queen of Scots. It has seen many royal dramas and witnessed the lives and deaths of almost every Scottish monarch up to the Union of the Crowns in 1603.

*The other Andy Murray was awarded the freedom of Stirling in 2012. He is set to receive this accolade when he attends a reception that is being held in his honour at Stirling Castle.

wow. just wow.

this is magnificence.

absolutely awe inspiring castle in a stunning setting.

good deal thanks!

Bien elegido, General Huntingyou. Nice job picking one from El Caribe.

Hey, we have to watch over the kingdom in all parts of the world.......I don't mind taking care of the Caribbean and sip some piña colada while at it :D

General Huntingyou, who leads the legions of the Azure Waters. (I wish there were an emoticon for a drink with an umbrella in it.) :D

Torrelobaton Castle, in Spain.

I don't think that looks right. This is the Torrelobaton Castle:

I'll see if I can find a better match.

Really glad you like Stirling Castle. It's my absolute favourite. The stunning Edinburgh Castle comes a very close second.

El Cid was a great Spanish general of the Middle Ages in the time of fighting for supremacy of Spain between the Muslim Berbers and the Christian regions. He is considered a great hero in Spain, and he's totally up your street, but the history is a bit complicated. You might give this a look:

princess moxie I was just taking a quick look at the castles at the castle at MTF.

it looks like you and I have the same castle.

I do not recall giving myself that castle at mtf. either somebody changed it or I just do not remember. in fact I still do not remember which castle it is exactly even after you told me a couple of days ago.

I do recall finding general Javier a Spanish castle there which I like a lot.

one other explanation: I only took a quick look at the very first volume there. so back then maybe I picked one out in a hurry from spain.

and I changed it to some other castle over the years. at any rate I am not going to bother looking it up now.

but what a coincidence: my very first castle ever there and your castle here are the same.

I find your castle absolutely amazing. it will be a big hit with everyone.

the rich history behind it and the setting make it fascinating.

thanks princess moxie.

I plan to see that movie again soon. in fact I will look for it in the next 2-3 days. I am going shopping on Monday and Tuesday.

ok I just took a quick look at the latest volume there. it looks like I have this same castle that princess moxie has. you see I do not recall picking this castle for myself.

it is a stunning castle but it is not menacing enough for me.

at any rate still quite a coincidence.

and this is the castle I selected for javi. it turned out that he liked it a lot so he took it.

but clearly this is the kind of castle I would have selected for myself. either this one or some Scottish castle.

I'll see if I can find a better match.

I got the info from IMDb's list of locations for shooting the film:

http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0054847/locations?ref_=tt_dt_dt

But after looking deeper, I found this on Wikipedia's page for the film:

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/El_Cid_(film)#Production

They used several castles. I've never seen El Cid, but I'm also wondering if the castle in the poster isn't even real. Maybe it's a painting.

2. where eagles dare

3. first knight

First Knight is a 1995 American medieval film based on Arthurian legend, directed by Jerry Zucker. It stars Richard Gere as Lancelot, Julia Ormond as Guinevere, Sean Connery as King Arthur and Ben Cross as Malagant.

4. Excalibur

5. king Arthur

6. kingdom of heaven

and I am sure at least 1000 other films that had castles in them.

The definitely shot it in a lot of locations in Spain, and at several castles, but I'm beginning to believe they "stylized" one for the poster. I can't find that castle at all.

Congrats to the Italian magician, Fabio Fognini, and his fans for saving 3 match points in the second set, and coming from behind to win his second straight tournament in Hamburg over the tiring Delbonis.

Fabio-Fognini_2976315.jpg

Also congratulations and admiration for "Dr." Ivo Karlovic for winning over Falla in Bogota, Columbia, his first title in 5 years, without dropping his serve all tournament, after battling viral meningitis since mid-April and finally returning at Newport. During his illness, he couldn't remember his name. Well done Doc. :clap
