Novak is going to get the weeks at #1 record - I see that as a foregone conclusion. But it shouldn't be padded by a global pandemic in which he isn't being forced to defend his points. Talk about an asterisk.

This whole entire year needs to be given an asterisk IMO

Even though I have no life, I stopped myself from coming up with a poll nominating tourneys, players, or eras deserving of an asterisk like Graf padding her record after Monica's stabbing, the shady men's draws (seedings) & early round BO3 matches done at the USO, or this whole season due to present day health concerns!  :shushing-face:

Escaped? yes there were 2 rain delays, apart from being bad light, wet and of course the balls were heavy.I have been to RG many times over the years, from a spectator's point of view it was just horrid ,the match Should have been put on earlier, in the day,the officials were aware of the bad weather to come. Finally the officials postponed the match till the next day, being Monday.
Some folks like to make much of some chances, however slim, that a few might have had against Rafa at RG. That Schwartzman was up early is certainly notable, in 2018, but is certainly wasn't guaranteeing him the win, before the rains came.

In 2012, the only thing that kept Djokovic from losing in straights was that it started to sprinkle, and the umpire let one set and into the next play out. The luck in that match wasn't Nadal's, that they stopped for rain, but Novak's, that it even rained at all. Otherwise, he was getting his ass kicked.

I did a further post explaining regarding 'Luck' to the poster, players have to adjust to the weather regardless, also the officials should have started the match earlier, they knew of the bad weather which was to come, btw watching the match from your tv is quite different being there live, like I was.,from a live spectator point of view it was horrid.
I also said it was not to Rafa's advantage at all due to the rain delay.if you had read my post.

This is an article that talks about Nadal and rain luck. I hope folks would read down to the end, when the author makes the point that it's not just all luck. I post it because there is a false notion here about Nadal and luck.

Quite frankly Moxie you should be addressing Mile's post not mine? I was the one that challenged it,posters should get their facts straight before making assumptions? now the poster does not think it was RG final at all in 2012 in rain delay conditions.,said it could have been a grass tournament? I rest my case.

One was clear, when a bit rain came, Nadal started to lose.

For points, first they cancled to 27. april. Now on new announcement even May tours are canceled. So i understand they will count weeks to Nole up to 27. april, and not for clay season (new cancelation is from 27 April to 7 May). Madrid and Rome are canceled. RG unknown.

I think you need to read Moxie's post further up regarding when it began to rain,I do not know which match you were watching, even you said in your recent post you were not certain it was the final at RG in 2012,you thought it could be a grass tournament? get your facts clear before making assumptions.
BTW I gather your are a Novak fan.

I read Moxie article, i suppose 2012 RG. But leave it, people are too nervous anyway and this corona is just helping.

Dont use the coronavirus as your excuse, you suppose it was 2012 RG final? you keep changing your mind? last time it was a grass tournament. When you post again be 'clear and accurate' in your posts...posters will challenge you on assumptions that are not correct.

the rank charts have been frozen now i think ?. so djoko weeks at no1 total will not increase.

this happened when the suspension was extended to cover the clay swing up to june 7th.

You’re correct. Key section: “... the FedEx ATP Rankings and WTA Rankings will be frozen throughout this period and until further notice.”

To be clear, I wasn't challenging what you said, Margaret, just adding to it, and talking about folks who seem to forget who actually got "lucky" on some occasions, when the rains came. :smooch:

Regarding the ranking points which are now being suspended for now, will these ranking points drop off before the same period in 2021?

Here is my educated guess. Generally speaking the life of points earned in a tourney in both ATP and WTA is exactly 52 weeks. So, suppose the freeze is there for 15 weeks. Then, the points earned in a tourney will drop off after 67 (52+15) weeks since it was added.

Keep in mind that the informal idea that points stay in a player's account until they defend that tourney is erroneous. Points stay in a player's account for 52 weeks since it was added (under normal circumstances).
