Well Serena is looking good have to see what happens on her side. Jankovic/Li should be a good match. I believe Jankovic beat Li earlier this year.

Exactly! Even the commentators in the recent past have mentioned it, particularly the Sharapova rush to shake the chairs hand in Miami...classic!!

Great win for Serena, I thought it'll be closer.

Sloane didn't play too smart in the second set.

I never thought Sloane had a chance. She played an injured Serena in Australia to get that win. Today she played the real Serena.

Short of injury, I think it's a done deal. It's simply a matter of going through the motions.

It was a good match from both. Serena did relax in the 2nd set and was more aggressive. Sloane never adjusted and kept going for winners that weren't there, thus more UE's on her part. That's where she needs to clean up her game. Serena was the same way when she was younger, a bit of an UE machine.

I think she has learned from her Wimbledon debacle, and isn't going to be passive. But, she needs to flatten out her shot at times, not always.

That being said, let's not give the title to her yet.

please dont compare the two because they are very different..Serena at 20yrs was an accomplished player with lots of titles and a slam in her back pocket.Serena is a once in a lifetime phenom and Sloane doesnt have the same qualities..Serena won 1999 Usa Open with almost no errors.I refuse to accept that Sloane has the same qualities as Serena :nono just watch USA Open 1999 and tell me a 17yr old Serena can be compared to Scone..l

I'm really surprised this match wasn't the feature night match with all the hype....

the reason why is because CBS still have the rights to the us open, and they wanted this to be their featured match

Makes sense....

No! If they want the rights, then show the matches. All of us

do not have TTC. So I don't get to see the night match.

Of course they aren't the same player Tossip. Don't be silly because you don't like Sloane. What you saw today was the master teaching the student how it should be done. Don't tell me Serena didn't make alot of errors back then. Both her and Venus used to make a ton of errors but they also made alot of winners and their numbers would almost be even. They were still winning matches of course, but the errors were there. Just as Serena learned to cutdown on errors, Sloane needs to do it too.

I actually think where Serena is getting in trouble is the return of serve and lack of consistent aggression at times there. When she just seems content to put the ball in play is where she seems to float between what I call clay and hard court mode. I noticed when she was aggressive and really eating at Sloane's serve was she really flattening her shots and taking it to Sloane.
