The New York Times has an article on the disastrous Kendi centre, and the amount of cash unaccounted for keeps growing. Up to $55 million. Where is it all gone to? Unfortunately the NYT isn’t too animated in that direction, preferring to still believe that Kendi’s insubstantial ideology is not at fault for the absolute failure of anything of substance to flow from it, but instead, “for the rest of us, it’s important to understand that the center’s apparent implosion is more the result of a failed funding model than a failed ideology. It exemplifies the lamentable tendency among left-leaning donors to chase fads and celebrities rather than build sustainable institutions.”
It could easily be both. Definitely the “fads and celebrities” thing on the left displays a shallowness of thought which has had an unfortunate and destructive effect on society, particularly when it comes to race and gender. And of course, the left loves celebrity. Hollywood glamour and rock star kudos somehow fools them every time. But nobody challenged Kendi’s beliefs on the left. Nobody got him on stage and grilled him.
And he wasn’t willing to face interlocutors either. Questions were violence, etc. If you don’t believe it, you’re racist.
Gullibility and virtue signalling are not substantial beginning points. His ideology was bigoted to begin with. But nobody tested it, on the left, which is where the questions should begin. The left don’t question their own,
that’s the problem. They allow their worst ideas to enter society with an imprimatur that’s worthless, because their bad ideas aren’t scrutinised.
As for the $55 million? Who on the left really cares where it’s gone? The NYT don’t, they’re more interested in reducing the topic to comparisons in tribalism. They all have plenty of money to splash about and make themselves feel like they’re antiracists too, and of course allies of sick gender faddists.
All with no questions asked..
